Mary Gwyn's Art Me and Moonlight painting Hi! Welcome! My name is Mary Gwyn Bowen and this is my store featuring antique botanical illustration, vintage book art illustration and my own original art work. The antique botanicals are from the 19th century and are primarily British and German. Vintage illustrations I will have from time to time, represent the type of book illustration done prior to the take over by photography, Most are from the early to mid 20th century, In my own work, I do several different types and will have all of them here, I do absracts in ink wash and oil, still life in oil stick and oil, landscape in oil and botanicals in watercolor. All the things I present here are things I love. More of my own work is featured on my web site www.marygwynsart.com (unfinshed at this time). Art has been a passion for me since I first began taking painting lessons at the age of eight. However, at college age I heeded the call to study "something practical"! But I continued to paint whenever I had time. I love painting and couldn't quit until I was finally able to get to art school to complete the degree I wished I had gotten earlier. So at the age of 46, I received a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honors from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. And followed that with some graduate studies in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, GA. Maybe I appreciate it more because of how long it took me to get there!!! While at the Corcoran, I studied botanical art and fell in love with the genre. That led me to begin collecting these lovely illustrations. Some of the ones I have featured are from what I have been able to collect. I continue to search for more. Please email me with any questions you might have. Thanks so much!
