I have been meaning to add more information about my business since the About Me became one of the programs on eBay. My husband Larry was good enough to put pictures of our antique house and a little information about me, but I have been so busy putting on fresh listings that I just never got around to adding information that might be of assistance to my customers.

First, in regard to the layaway plan I mention, the usual length of time is 60 days. The down payment is one-third of the of price item. The second one-third is due in 30 days and the balance (plus shipping costs) is due in 60 days. There can be changes in this formula, but if you are bidding on something, it is best that we agree to anything different in advance. Sometimes people have requested an additional 30 days and 4 payments. Others need a smaller payment for the first and the balance after that in 2 equal payments. Hope this is not too confusing, but feel free to ask about this layaway plan.

In the future, I hope to add information about how to dress different types of dolls. There were so many thousands of dolls and each one had there own special shape and style of dress. There were thousands of china head dolls that were made from 1840 to 1930. The sizes alone range from 3" to 28" and probably greater variations than that, but the most common would be the 12" to 18" dolls. Some were made with china lower arms and hands and others with leather arms. Most of the china doll arms were very thin and the sleeves on their dresses were also quite thin. Putting a china doll arm into a sleeve is almost like threading a needle. This also applies to the German bisque shoulder head dolls. They too have the very thin arms and often clothing for either of these dolls is interchangeable. A German child shoulder head doll can wear a lady doll dress with the thin arms. Both types of dolls tend to have long thin bodies as well. Also, sometimes the china head dolls will look cute in the Victorian or Edwardian dresses that were designed for these bisque shoulder head dolls. One may not technically be appropriate for the other; but if this is what you enjoy, then you should dress the doll that way.

Not all china head dolls were made the same as the average china head doll. Many had beautifully sculptured china hands. These are apt to be found on the more rare china head dolls and also the larger ones, but obviously I cannot cover every single style of china dolls here. I leave that to the experts. My writings are for people who want to enjoy their dolls and have fun and for people who need a little help on just how to go about dressing their doll or a family heirloom.

Now About Me I started selling antiques in the late 1970s or early 1980s. At first I was just selling quilts and other primitive American antiques such as yellow ware, woodenware, early lighting devices, glass cup plates, etc. I very quickly became intrigued by dolls. Since I liked primitives, my first doll was an oil painted cloth doll that was made in Rhode Island by Martha Chase. Some of his paint was wearing away and he had holes in his britches. He was only 12" tall, but a really cute doll and I wish I had never sold him. I continued to buy all types of dolls, but I found it very difficult to learn about them. There were so many. Another problem I had is that I was breaking them faster than I was selling them. I quickly learned that the clothing they wore was almost more interesting and I had a natural ability to understand clothing styles through the ages and it was what I really loved. I also love fabrics of all kinds and the clothing combined my love of early styles and early fabrics into one great field of collecting.

My collecting interests include: doll clothing and accessories, early American primitives and folk art, early quilts, doll house miniatures and accessories, early dolls especially cloth dolls, bisque dolls, china head dolls and many others. My favorites are rag dolls, teddy bears and French Fashion dolls, plus all their clothing and accessories. I try to have a mixture of clothing, textiles, dolls, accessories, and other related items of interest on auction most of the time.
