My name is Andrew Kamchi, and I work for the Institute for Therapeutic Massage (ITM), and the Institute for Massage & Spa Therapy Education (IMSTE). I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Business Administration, and a minor in health education. I then went on to attend the Physician Assistant program at UMDNJ / Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, where my focus was neurology, radiology, orthopedics and sports medicine. Having held various managerial positions for private medical education companies, over the years, I developed an appreciation for the benefits of massage, and other hands on modalities, and thus designed this site to help bring high quality educational products to the massage & spa industry at a reasonable cost. Of course, I also welcome people who have a desire to learn these modalities no matter what their educational background is. Below, you will find a picture of me, as well as some shots that were taken at one of our schools.

ITM, which was established in 1994, has 6 massage therapy schools in the state of New Jersey, offers 3 courses of study, several certifications, and over 30 different continuing education (CE) programs to help you learn various aspects of the healing arts. You can find us on the internet by doing a quick search for Institute for Therapeutic Massage.   We are proud of the fact that despite the corporate infiltration into the healing arts, we are still owned and operated by the founder Lisa Helbig.  Lisa has also been instrumental in the development of other massage and aesthetician schools (both before and after opening ITM), massage based curriculums, hospital based massage programs, community / charity based outreach, CEU based videos, and a book on hot stone massage.

ITM is affiliated with: University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Deborah Heart & Lung Center, St. Barnabas - Community Medical Center, Accredited by COMTA, Approved by NCBTMB, and a Member of ABMP, IMMSA, and the AMTA Council of Schools.

Our goal is to ensure that the graduates of our education programs exceed the expectations of the massage, bodywork, and wellness community as competent, qualified, and ethical professionals.

Our philosophy of education is to utilize a combination of academic study and hands-on techniques to incorporate late breaking research, and thus offer all students a learning environment to obtain the highest level of knowledge and skill to work safely and effectively with the public-at-large.

The Institute for Massage & Spa Therapy Education (IMSTE) is a collection of health & wellness professionals dedicated to producing high quality videos (DVD), educational manuals, textbooks, live lectures and continuing education classes.  We work with content experts such as Ralph Stephens, Pat Mayrhofer of Nature Stones Inc, Joe Horan of Reflexology Seminars of NY, and several others.

All of the educators mentioned above teach live, hands-on programs, and also believe that a student can continue to develop their academic / didactic understanding of said techniques through a variety of sources, including distance education video.
