Matchcovers are Fun to Collect
NEW! Our new redesigned website is up and running at matchcovers.net, where you can see hundreds of matchcovers and learn more about matchcover collecting than you ever wanted to know. Take a look. It's FREE!
Matchcovers were the predominant American advertising form from WWI through the mid 1950s. The most commonly written phrase isn't "In God We Trust," but "Close Cover Before Striking." Categories from Airlines to Zoos and everything in between, including National Political, Sports, Girlies, Railroads and whatever you can think of--was probably advertised on a matchcover. I started as a collector in the late 1970s. Edited a national matchcover collecting club bulletin in the mid 1980s, and went on line with the rest of the world in the 1990s. eBay has been our (my wife is CJ) passion since November 1998, and we have about 1.5 million matchcovers of which about one-third are scheduled for eBay sales. That means we'll be selling into the next century (LOL). It's just fun! Lots of fun to help others with memories and a bit of history.

"My dad worked there!" "I graduated from that university!" "My grandparents started that restaurant!" "I was born in that town!" Dozens of friendly e-mails telling us about who, what, when and where. We get them all the time. We also have about 150,000 matchcovers sorted by city within state for those looking for a remembrance of a special town. I have written three price guides on matchcover collecting and a white paper on the matchcovers of the 1939 New York World's Fair; over 100 magazine and newspaper articles on matchcover collecting and have been interviewed on about 10 radio stations around the world. I even started a murder mystery novel with a matchcover theme but eBay got in the way. We answer e-questions about matchcover collecting and the hobby (when time permits), refer people to matchcover collecting clubs across the country, appraise matchcover and match book collections, broker and buy mature collections, and have five cats and a Scottish Terrier and two Lasas.
