My mother is a wonderful woman. She taught her daughters the value of a dollar, how to keep a clean house and always to be honest, trustworthy and responsible. She is 94 years old. She is also very good at giving orders. When she speaks, believe me, I listen very carefully.
When I retired from my 20 year career as a marketing manager for a NYSE manufacturing company and simultaneouly my daughter graduated from college, my mother said..."So, now you have plenty of time. Why don't you get clean your closets and get rid of everything you don't need? You've lived in the same house 25 years and you must have a lot to get rid of. And while you're at it, why don't you have your windows washed?"
Being the dutiful daughter, I began to to clean, de-clutter and de-accession. I had read about EBAY and decided to give it a try. Not only did I have lots of fun and meet lots of nice people in cyberspace, I made some cash and most importantly, cleaned my closets. Well, you might imagine that this sucess made my friends and family very jealous. Everyone was pleading with me to help them on their cleaning and de-cluttering quests. My sister said "What about me?" and my mother ordered "Come immediately" and my friends were insistent that I include them too!!
So, my sister told her friends, my mother told her friends, my daughter told her friends and my friends told their friends. And thus, my little business was born. I only sell for people I know. I only sell authentic items. I only sell items that are from nice clean homes and from nice clean people. I don't sell knock-offs, fakes or other evil items. Everything I sell is 100% guaranteed as described or a full refund (including shipping) will be given. I'm not General Motors but I am a lot nicer and certainly easier to buy from.
The goal was to de-accession years of shopping, saving and hoarding. Then the goal was to help my friends and family in the same quest. Never expected a business. Never expected to have so much fun! I have never had a bad experience, never had a bad customer and never lost a package yet. And of course, my feedback is 100% and I can assure you - it will stay that way.
The business has developed into an almost full time job. However, working out of my home and in my pajamas is a lot more rewarding than working in Corporate America. My postman is one of my best new friends and my dry cleaning bills are reduced to just about nothing. No more working lunches and dinners and what a great feeling not to have to travel on business anymore. For those of you who don't know it, business travel is not as exciting as it sounds.
Being the Pulitzer Prizer Winner Wannabe, I try to inject a little humor in my listings and often mention my fictitious Aunt Mabel, Aunt Bertha and Aunt Evangeline. They are wordly, well traveled, have young boyfriends, wear big diamonds and live on ocean front estates.
Now go snag a bargain on EBAY and tell your friends your Aunt Evangeline left you a CHANEL suit, an oceanfront estate, a Jack Benny autograph, $5 million dollars in cash and a 1932 Rolls Royce. And what happened to the young boyfriend you might ask? He got the every day china, the Ford Pick Up Truck that the servants used for the dump runs and the collection of Snoopy dolls. Rest assured, there is justice in this world.
Thanks for reading about me.
P.S: My closets are loaded again. Good news - the stuff isn't mine.
P.P. S: Those windows never did get washed!
Best Regards,
Ellen
