Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians love McKay's
No meat or meat by-products are used in any McKay’s products or in any part of the manufacturing process. Our products are regularly analyzed by an independent laboratory to verify this claim. Our plant is also inspected by the Food and Drug Administration. All of our products are Gluten free.
History
In 1944, founder John A. Donofrio was approached by the US Government to produce and package a ready mix soup that would dissolve more easily than bullion cubes for soldiers in the field in World War II. Mr Donofrio worked with his top chemist, Mr. McKay to produce two delicious powders that tasted like chicken and beef respectively.
Mr. McKay was the genius who developed the product. Mr. Donofrio was the driving force who produced over 39,000,000 packets of the powder in the first half of 1945. McKay’s was honored by the Army Quartermaster Corps with a Certificate of Meritorious Service.

Since the end of World War II,
McKay’s Original Recipe Seasoning and Soup base has been sold at retail to the general public in both
Chicken Style and Beef Style. Millions of people, both vegetarian and non-vegetarians have enjoyed McKay’s Original Recipe Instant Broth and Seasoning in a variety of ways. Because of the popularity of McKay's Seasoning and its limited availability in some areas, McKay's now sells its products on eBay as a public service. We ship once a week.
In recent years, McKay’s has added a No MSG product in both chicken and beef flavors. A Vegan Special line of the two flavors was introduced to great acclaim. The Vegan Special contains no dairy, MSG or Mace.
Another change to the McKay’s line occurred in 2005 when hydrogenated shortening was removed from our chicken style mix and replaced with the same 100% Soy Oil that has been used in our beef style mix.
Now McKay's has changed its recipe slightly and improved its beef flavor broths in all three categories: Original Recipe, No MSG Added, and Vegan Special.
Uses
McKay’s is known the world over as a quality vegetarian product. Many vegetarian recipes can be found on the internet that call for McKay’s products. We are proud that our products are carried by the official stores of the 7th Day Adventist Church, which teaches vegetarianism.
Our products are sold in many fine health food and specialty stores as well as some larger grocery stores and markets. Our Vegan Special products are very popular with the growing non-dairy nutritional movement.
But non vegetarians love McKay’s as well. Our customers report that they use the seasonings for ham, roast beef, chicken, potatoes (hot or cold), macaroni salad, soups, hamburgers, popcorn and even boiling kielbasa sausage.
McKay’s also makes an excellent soup. Just add hot water.

Glass Jars
McKay's uses glass jars to ship our delicious seasoning. Plastic containers would cost less to ship, but nothing preserves quality and repels humidity like glass. Shipping costs may seem high because of this, but we believe this is the best way of delivering a consistent, high quality product. To get the most value for your money, buy larger sizes.
