Mendelson's Liquidation Outlet may be beyond words. Ask people who've been there and they'll have a hard time explaining it - most will say, "You have to see it to believe it," or "just go". Mendelson's is over a million and half square feet of warehoused "surplus" inventory in five different buildings (two buildings have public areas). Surplus means anything from manufacturers' overruns to entire inventories from failed businesses. Think of it like a going out of business sale 6 days a week.

Founded in 1960 by Harry Mendelson as a government electronics surplus store, it remains a family business with two generations on staff. The third floor is a monument to their roots, a Hamvention favorite, chock full of electronics, components, computer gear, industrial tooling, wire cable, and even the occasional robot. While the first floor is an ever changing rotation of product including health and beauty items, clothing, glassware, plasticware, shelving, computers, and much more.

Today Mendelson's buys worldwide from manufacturers and distributors who are liquidating excess inventory, seconds, returns, or obsolete product. We also buy complete businesses that have closed. Long term relationships with auctioneers means Mendelson's knows about every auction in the country.

A new source of product is failed dot-com inventories. As these Internet start-ups fizzle out, large inventories are liquidated quickly. When your favorite dot-com is dot gone - there's a chance you can find this product at Mendelson's at a huge discount.

Store fixtures have been a mainstay at Mendelson's with an entire building devoted to merchandising products. Display cases, mannequins, shelving, fixtures, and everything else you would need to set-up shop can be found at tremendous discounts. When major retailers redesign their stores, the next stop for their old displays is Mendelson's - where you can find first class fixtures ready for your imaginative reuse.

While every shopper has a different Mendelson's story the facilities have stories of their own. The main building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by Charles Kettering at the turn of the century, it was one of the first General Motors parts plants.

The monolith on the Dayton skyline is actually made of several buildings and additions.
Sitting in the shadows of Kettering's plants is Dayton's new baseball field. Mendelson's traded its large parking lot on First Street in a land swap to help minor league baseball come to town. In their inaugural season, the Dayton Dragons set a new minor league attendance record. Riverscape, a fitting neighborhood block away, inspires future generations of Mendelson's shoppers to explore our store and dream up the next pop-top can or electric starter with its interpretive sculptures dedicated to the legacies of Dayton inventors.
