Can't say exactly when my interest in antique art glass as well as a wide variety of vintage treasures began.... I grew up in a family of collectors... daughter of an intrepid art glass collector... the fascination, if not genetic, was nearly inescapable.
Crossed the thin line between collector and dealer in the early 90s, setting up at antique shows locally, and throughout Texas. Am convinced that most antique dealers are collectors, who ran out of room. Something had to give. The next step was a Coleman tent in the backyard. Selling at shows was great fun, but quite demanding on many levels. I'd heard and read about eBay and online selling, but the prospect was daunting.... particularly for an one who'd not booted up anything more than an Apple IIE prior to age 50! Didn't know beans about computers...
Happily, in May of '98, my son, home from OU, patiently taught me enough to get started on eBay. What a spectacular Mother's Day gift! Within six months, I'd completely abandoned doing shows, and was working from home. Although I DO miss trading with my customers face to face, the opportunity to do business with people throughout the country and worldwide has been, and remains an amazing experience.
I personally collect Bohemian/Czech art glass, Victorian English vaseline glass framed sweetmeats and open salts, as well as Irish Belleek threadwork baskets. Of course, that's not to the exclusion of many other things. It's a huge pleasure to find, research, admire, and either keep or sell interesting things. To convey lovely things to others, who will enjoy and preserve them, is equally as satisfying as owning them myself. Each item represents a particular slice of history.... the creation of some master craftsman or artist, or reminds us of special people or events in our own lives. Collecting may be regarded by some as a mild neurosis, but, IMHO, it's a "continuing ed class", an excursion to times and places past, and/or a personal sentimental journey.... endlessly interesting. : ) I AM a trifle unnerved that common things from my childhood are now considered "antique" or vintage. Good Grief! When did THAT happen!?!
I hope you will find among my widely diverse eBay listings, something which will fit in your own collection, work with your decor, or be the perfect jewelry accessory. My treasure hunting is relentless, and I never know what I will find around the next corner. Please check my auctions frequently. I try to launch new items every day.
Remember, I guarantee everything I sell online. I do my level best to accurately describe each item. If a problem arises, please contact me, and I will address and resolve issues immediately. I welcome questions.... so don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you for visiting!
Warmest regards,
Melanie
