Born inquisitive and creative, I have been making things since the sandbox. A registered nurse by profession, I worked 23 years in a hospital setting as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse and then as a Labor and Delivery nurse, lactation consultant, childbirth educator, domestic violence educator and CPR instructor. I designed the logo for Falmouth Hospital's SAFE ZONE campaign and helped institute a written policy against discrimination of any kind. Posters of my design hang throughout the Cape Cod Healthcare system. While working as a nurse I also opened a retail New Age store and operated that for almost two years.
I became disabled with Multiple Sclerosis and had to leave Nursing in 2002. I still have the use of my hands so I am using this time to pursue my love of the Arts while able. I live each day ONE DAY AT A TIME and most days have a very grateful heart for all the many blessings in my life. I work in my studio on Buttermilk Bay in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I am blessed with the love of many friends and lots of family. I do drive my family nuts, though, with jewelry, glass, crafts, etc...scattered about the house, counter, kitchen table, etc....
I am mostly a self-taught artist but have taken courses in ceramics, pottery, basketweaving, Nantucket basket making, painting, flamework and particularly like working with kiln-fired glass and doing art glass mosaics. Along the way I have taught myself and received instruction in sewing, knitting, crocheting, macrame, tile work, metalsmithing, etc.......and my art work often combines traditional methods using unconventional materials.
Forced retirement has allowed me the time to pursue my love of creating and as I sit in my Studio overlooking the ocean, I am amazed by the colors and sparkle of God's planet. My artwork tends to be whimsical and I like doing one-of-a-kind works. I won First Prize in the very first design contest I entered and my gemstone and fiber necklace can be seen on Rings-Things.com under 2006 Contest winners; I also won an Honorable Mention for a fiber/beaded amulet bag. My work is shown in galleries on Cape Cod, Mass., as well as in Florida where I have a winter studio in Ft. Myers Beach.
Fantasea Studios is pleased to announce the opening of my own Virtual Art Gallery on Ebay. Please check www.fantaseastudios.com
