A New Englander in Paradise


Gardening

Raised in Massachusetts, most of my family has by now left New England.  At 17 I left to go to school in South Carolina, saw my first palmetto tree, my first cycad (I thought for sure it was a royal palm), first swam in warm water.

I was hooked!  I had always gardened, something I picked up from my wonderful peasant grandmother, who taught me about the benefit of rabbit dookie, how cuttings can grow, what's a weed and what's wild greens for the table.

Until I moved to Miami from New York 18 years ago, I always had dozens of house plants.  Now, I don't have one!  I set them all free in my garden.  I've been collecting wierd things for years and hope to bring them to you.  Check out my garden by clicking on it!  If you see anything you like, let me know and I will list it for you.

Travelling

I firmly believe in the old LBJ motto, "See America First", and I love to show the wonders of America to my friends from Europe.

I also love to go to the Mediterranean, where my ancestors come from, to study its history and culture, visiting ancient archeological sites and old churches and museums.  However, I also like the wilds of the tropics, but have only visited the Yucatan.  Someday, hopefully soon, I'll be planning a tropical trip, hopefully to buy things to cultivate and offer my gardening friends.

Hobbies

Gardening is more than a hobby, but it isn't my life's work, either.  I garden for pretty things now (except for my mangos and pineapples, which are my only two food crops due to a lack of light in my jungle yard).

For bucks, I work evenings as a document specialist in a big law firm.

For creativity, I sing in choirs and Byzantine chant groups.

For getting away by myself, I bicycle.
