...to my eBay page. I'd like to introduce myself, and hope you can get to know me a bit better before you bid on my items.
We are E X P A N D I N G our business!!
Michael Walker Numismatics is now in the United Kingdom!!
We have opened an office in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, so that we may serve our friends in the UK. We want to be able to provide nice US coins at a very good price to collectors in the UK. If you live in the UK, and are looking for certain coins for your collection, please email us and let us know what you needs are.
Well, not with the
money we carry in our wallet. I love COINS. From the oldest coins
right up to the new state quarters. I became a
"collector" about the same time I started to read. I
was always fascinated by the old coins that my dad would bring
home in his change. Back then (early 60s) it was common to find
Mercury dimes, Buffalo nickels, Walking Liberty halves, and tons
of wheat pennies still floating in pocket change. My dad wasn't
too keen on giving me the half dollars, but he did share the
wheats, buffalos, and Mercurys that he found in change. The cool
thing is...I still have most of those very same coins in my
collection today. As time went on, I started collecting stamps,
baseball cards, frogs, or whatever might have interested me at
that time. But nothing really held on except for the coins, which
pleased my mom. At 14 I landed my first job. I worked for a small
coin shop in Texas. I swept floors, washed windows, and took out
the trash. I was in heaven! It wasn't too long until I was
"promoted" behind the desk. Mounting coins in 2x2s and
filling out cards for the "bid board". It was about
this time that I started helping customers and learning a lot
about customer service from my boss, "Sarge". That
customer service that I learned as a young teen hasn't been
forgotten. I aim to please my customers, and treat them how I
want to be treated. After all, I buy coins too. Check out what I
have to offer, and maybe you will find something you like. If you
have any questions about coin collecting, don't hesitate to write
me. I love talking "coins", and I am happy to help out
newcomers to coin collecting.
Coin
Grading
Ok, I've been in the business for
years, both buying and selling, and if there is one thing I have
learned, there are almost as many ways to grade a coin as there
are people to grade them. One person can see a coin as a MS63,
while another sees it as AU50. It all depends on which side of
the fence you are sitting...as a buyer or seller. There are many
dealers out there, particularly some of the biggest, most well
advertised dealers, that sell coins that are either cleaned, or
overgraded. I grade my coins as if I was a BUYER, so you get a
coin that is at least the grade I see it as, or possibly even a
grade higher than advertised. I want you to be happy with your
purchase. If you ever buy a coin from me and you don't think it
measures up to the grade I put on it, let me know. Grading coins
is an art, not a science.
Surprises...
Now sometimes you like surprises. Maybe a surprise birthday party. Or the surprise of seeing Ed McMahon at your door with a $10 million check made out to you. Then again, sometimes you don't like surprises. Like when you get a coin you just bought on eBay, and it's not as nice as you expected. It might have a problem that wasn't mentioned in the description. Prehaps you bought a proof set where some of the coins are toning or hazing. Or maybe a mint set where the coins are spotted and dark. Or a coin that was described as Gem Premium Quality Brilliant Uncirculated that turns out to be Almost Uncirculated. These are surprises that you don't like.
I accurately describe every coin or set of coins I sell. If a coin has a rim nick or ding, I mention it. A spot or two on a BU penny? It will be mentioned in the ad. In other words, I work hard to see that the coin you get is exactly how it is described in the ad. No fancy adjectives...just an honest description.
Communications 101...
They say that communications is important in any relationship. Between a couple, between a parent and child, between an employer and his employees. And I think it is equally important between a seller and buyer here on eBay. I will try to contact you within 24 hours of auction end. Sometimes I may be out of town on weekends attending a coin show, or camping in the mountains of Virginia. So if you don't hear from me on a weekend sale, not to fret, I will contact you by Monday morning. And most importantly, I also email you when I receive your payment and to let you know you purchase is being shipped. That way you'll know every step of the sale.
