I have decorated cakes for many years and have won many first place ribbons for my decorated cakes at County and State Fairs and cake decorating shows.
The cake decorating magazine “Mail Box News” has featured me in several articles over the years. Through their publication, a major magazine in Southern California contracted me to decorate a cake to match the cover of their magazine and deliver it to the Bohemian Club in San Francisco, CA for their annual get together. The cake measured 24” x 36”. To deliver the cake (made of 24 cake mixes) my husband cut a cake board from a 3/4" sheet of plywood, which was the perfect thing to support the weight of the cake during the two hour drive to San Francisco. That was a very interesting project for me to do.
Several years ago I was responsible for the change in rules at the California State Fair. I entered the cake decorating contest with a 7-foot long train cake and won first place. They had to find a display case for it to fit in and they were not very happy about that. So they changed the rules for next year and limited the size of the cakes that could be entered.
The sky’s the limit to what you can create with a cake mix, frosting and some creativity! I have worked for a bakery for a major grocery store chain, but I prefer to decorate at home because it enables me to take the time to put on extra creative touches!
I have instructed Baking Classes for Children K-8 Grades. The kids loved the classes and were wonderful students. They were amazed at what they could make from scratch and without using a microwave. The boys enjoyed the classes just as much as the girls! They were so proud of what they accomplished and they loved eating the finished product!
In the spring I make and sell panoramic sugar Easter eggs on eBay. Additionally, I sell the molds so that you can make your own panoramic Easter eggs. They are fun and easy to make, and last for years.
I sell mostly gum paste items, cake decorating supplies, and baking supplies on eBay. Gum paste flowers and decorations can be applied to buttercream, ice cream, and fondant cakes. Cakes look so professional and elegant with gum paste flowers. Plus, using them saves time on decorating! Decorated cakes with gum paste flowers, boxed up, can be kept in the refrigerator or freezer. Gum paste is a ”sugar dough” mixed with gums that are technically edible, but it is bland tasting and really does not taste very good. Gum paste flowers have a smooth porcelain-like finish, which can be colored with petal dust, luster powders, and even airbrushed with food coloring. They can be kept indefinitely stored in airtight containers in a cool dark place away from moisture. For custom sprays and colors, please e-mail me with your requests.
I want to close with a big thank you to all my wonderful loyal customers. Your business is very much appreciated. Sincerely, Michele www.michelesartroom.com
