I am a student and a fiber artist from the Pacific Northwest where I work hard to produce high quality handspun yarns, fibers, and knit goods that are as unique as every individual
The fibers:
I use only high quality fibers from known sources, with an emphasis on unique types and blends
of fibers. The blends are completely unique and blended by hand. Once it gone, it gone. Dyes
are food-safe, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, as is the mordant (what I use to set the
dyes to prevent the dyes from leaching out). Additionally, all the fibers are vegetarian friendly. I
check all my fibers sources carefully to make sure that animals are not being harmed in the
process (the exception is silk, which is ALWAYS recycled silk). Examples of fibers include: Wool,
merino, mohair, nylon,Angelina, firestar, cotton, sparkle, viscose, soy silk, silk (recycled only), etc.
The Spinning:
All of these yarns are 100% handspun by me. Sometimes a binder or core thread will be used
(often cotton or nylon) to spin the fiber around to create a textured/shiny yarn. Because this
yarn is handspun, it is not perfectly evenly spun or dyed- that part of the reason that handspun
yarn is so cool! Also, handspun yarn has the advantage of texture and variations that
commercial yarns just can capture in their blends (or are unwilling to since it requires more
work!)
Reasons For Handspun
It unique- there is nothing that is going to be quite the same as these products. It's
Vegetarian- (and sometimes vegan- feel free to ask me about it if you aren sure) and
environmentally friendly. We don need to add more chemicals to our environment any more
than we need to harm animals when we can just as easily avoid it.
