Since the turn of this last year I have been selling art on eBay for a friend of mine & his Mother as well as vw parts. Let me tell you some about this as I have been getting lots of questions about this and where it comes from.
ALL of this art comes from a friend of mine that I meet in my wife's antique store. His name is Gary Tiner - Gary is a published cartoonist and cartooning has been a way of life for him as long as I have known him.
He collected comic art as a way of studying how other people did their art and intended on opening a Cartoon Museum - he was rather studious about aquiring his desire and wrote many letters to well known cartoonist's, over 5,000 he says - all about 3 pages long and sending each a sample of his work and asking about their cartoons and how they created them.
Gary created, wrote & drew a strip published under the name of a friend of his - Whiskey Harper. The strip was called Super Kat and is not very well known but was published in 1975. Gary originally called this strip Jungle Cat and some of this art will come up for sale later on as well as some of the Super Kat original artwork.
This was in the early 1970's. Gary also did one cover for a comic con and was published many times in local papers & magazines as a freelancer.
Gary's collecting comic art started in 1968 at the World's Science Fiction Convention where he bought some of his first pieces of comic art. Many of the pieces I am selling were never sold through the public market but were done specifically for Gary or were sent to him by the artist - I have the letters showing this and am going to start sending copies of these letters with a piece of art as a way of showing that it is as represented. There will be lots of signatures as well as odd doodles and thoughts coming up as well as lots of great art.
Now Gary is not in good health at all - he has signed "Do Not Resuscitate" papers so I try and not ask the tons of questions but just try and select some - so he has sold his collection to his Mother and she has asked me to sell it ALL for her - every last piece and we are talking about 13,000 pieces of original art with most of it comic related. Now this came in unsorted boxes and piles & heaps which I am trying to sort some as I go and simply list at what we feel is a fair price.
All of this is guaranteed fully to be as stated in the auction or we will happily refund your full purchase price minus shipping - so be assured that I will state exactly what I see and find in reference books and on the net as well as from Gary himself - some I can find little on and it must stand on it's own merit.
Now the comic art or any kind of art is not my specific field but I do know a little about collecting and lots about selling items of all kinds. On paper I collect ephemera - paper of all kinds - mostly postage stamps and advertising and have since I was 11 years old - so I do know how to grade paper items - I also sell books on Amazon.com as Millersgarden2 wher I have started adding the comic book collection coming out of Gary's rooms. There are lots of rare books there and lots with original art in them and still more to come.
So I have found a new field of interest and just wish to reassure all of you buying from me that if there are any problems it will not be intentional and we can do something about it - so feel assured that all is exactly as represented or you may return it.
Also since my knowledge is limited on this and many other subjects if you see a mistake or know something about an item I do not please send me an email.
Thank YOU for reading my thoughts and if you have questions just email, Tom Miller
