Thanks for stopping by our "me" page. The Hero, Arion the Mariner, and I, Queen of the Mermaids, have explored ship wrecks for the past 18 years and you know what we've decided? That there was no more exciting time in human history than the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. So many interesting and kitschy things were produced during that time, we couldn't help rescue it and decorate our underwater kingdom with it. Throughout our kingdom, my love Arion and I keep a huge collection of fabulous vintage and retro items. Sailing through the stars on our ship, the Vintage Toy, we want to share our treasures with you!

Our Story
THE STORY OF THE HERO ARION AND MISS*MERMAID

The best version of the hero Arion,
exists in the books of the
ancient storyteller, Amacles. Amacles,
as is told, lived on the remote island
in the Pacific Ocean,
an isle in possession of so
many wonders, one could not possibly,
even with a hundred years,
describe all of its beauties
The waters off the coast of the Isle
was the oceanic home of the
merfolk. A wily folk these fish people
were, full of mystery and a love of all things aged.
They would rise out of the foam and sing
causing men's ships to crash on the rocks
so they could collect the items carried on the ships.
And the Queen of these folk, Miss Mermaid,
Was as fierce as she was beautiful.
Now Amacles told many tales of love.
And the story of the Hero Arion
is by far the most unusual. Arion,
the story goes, was tall, strong and daring.
His name from old means,
“enlightened, handsome, willing.”
And all of these, Arion was.
When Miss Mermaid gazed upon him,
She fell instantly in love.
He (Arion) had lived for many years at the court of Perfindel, when a longing came upon him to sail across to the World in search of vintage and retro items. Having made rich profits from the sales of action figures, he sought to cross the sea to new shores and bolster his trade with items anew.
Arion therefore hired three vessels, the crews of which were pastry chefs, thinking that there was no people in whom he could more safely confide; and, going on board the lead ship, set to sail. The pastry chefs, however, when they reached the open sea, formed a plot to seize upon Arion’s stow of action figures by throwing at him many coconut cream pies, thereby knocking him overboard. Discovering the pastry chefs’ plans, Arion dashed upon deck in his vintage pajamas with feet, fell to his knees, beseeching the pastry chefs to spare him, for he was not fond of coconut cream, being allergic to eggs, and made them welcome to all of his action figures. The chefs refused being eager to plunder; and required Arion either to get below and start separating egg whites, or without loss of time exit his pajamas and leap overboard into the deep.
In this strait, our hero Arion begged the chefs, since such was their pleasure, to allow him to mount the quarterdeck dressed in his pajamas and there to sew them all new pastry bibs, promising that if his stitching ceased he would fill up on canolis, then jump overboard never to trouble them again. Delighted at the prospect of donning and new bibs, the chefs consented, and withdrew from the stern to the middle of the vessel. Arion tottered in his pajamas with feet. He took his thread and standing on the quarterdeck began sewing the promised pastry bibs. This he did for many days. Upon finishing the last yard of cloth, without option or hesitation Arion took a deep breath, bid adieu to his ship, The Vintage Toy, swallowed down many canoli, and flung himself headlong into the dark sea. The pastry chefs contented in command of Arion’s ship and donning their new bibs, held their route for the New World.
As for Arion, the Queen of the Mermaids, with her flowing golden blond hair and velvety arms, swimming the sea near the surface that day looking for a ship of men to sink so she could examine its cargo. Legend tells of her underwater palace that is filled with the items and collectibles of the last century. As she approached the ship, she witnessed the Hero Arion sink, and upon seeing his comeliness, instantly fell in love. She swept him up in her arms, wrapping her mantle around him that he might breath and bore him to his homeland of Perfindel. Arion, though dazed, had never felt such love as when in Miss Mermaid’s embrace.
Landing him safely on his homeland, Miss Mermaid kissed the Hero Arion and though very sad at the parting, returned to her home in the deep. Ashore, still weary and salted from the sea, Arion, thence proceeded to tell the King of Perfindel all that had happened to him. The King, however, disbelieved the story, especially about the beautiful mermaid and her enchanted kisses, and stripped Arion of his titles and command and even his pajamas with feet, sentencing him to the next ten years and a day to live in wool boxer shorts. But the King was a shrewd man, and secretly he ordered watch kept for the return of the pastry chefs and Arion’s stolen ship, The Vintage Toy, that he may get the true story.
On the pastry chefs return to Perfindel, the King summoned them before him and asked if they could give any tidings of the Hero Arion. The pastry chefs conferred and returned the answer that Arion, well fed and in Italy, had begun a new life embroidering the Romans teacup doilies. Thereupon, Arion appeared before them defiant, scratching vigorously in his wool boxer shorts, more furious about the chefs’ lies than his ship or his woolly sentence. The pastry chefs, astonished, could not deny their guilt and abashed, were sentenced to life working for Hostess making cup cakes. Seeing Arion was telling the truth, the King pardoned him and Arion was released from his wool boxers and gifted as much silk as he could load upon his vessel. Arion set out to sea immediately in search of the beautiful Miss Mermaid.
Such is the account, which the Italians give; and there is to this day an offering to the vindication of Arion, which is the canoli, the filling being the symbol of the Hero Arion and the shell being the symbol of our Miss Mermaid that carried Arion to safety.
