The Captain's Coins Cards and Silver
Our History
Really, it all started when I was a kid and
just like the old saying goes "I would be a millionaire if my mom would
not have thrown out all my baseball cards when I left home". Well
she did and I am not - it is as simple as that. But now I have the chance
to start over.
In the early 80's I attended my first
collectible show and have been hooked ever since. I quickly realized
that all the fun was on the back side of the table, not just selling, but
trading. Always seemed like everyone else had something I wanted and
visa-versa. With our home being located in the upper Midwest, I started
finding baseball and hockey collectors were in the majority
and quickly realized that being the same was not going to land me the collection
of a lifetime. In looking for a small niche I could
call my own, I started collecting basketball trading cards and at that time there were not
very many to be had. However, two players named Bird and Magic
stirred quite an interest in the hobby. The Topps company changed their product and
revealed a new three panel card and coupled these two players with
Julius "Dr. J" Erving, all on the same card. They all
later went on the become NBA legends and Hall of Famers, virtually
changing the way Americans and soon to follow, the World, watched and enjoyed
the sport of Basketball. My hobby took off for the
sky.
Before you could blink your eyes, new manufactures
entered the scene. Bowman, Topps and Fleer companies
had new competition in the likes of Star, Upper
Deck, Hoops and Skybox. Rare and seldom seen cards began returning to the
marketplace, the quality of the product started to peak and values started
to soar. Collecting was fun and exciting. Everyone was in search
of those lost cards that mothers everywhere had thrown away.
Now
the average Joe Collector wanted more. Manufacturing companies
started producing an array of items which might be popular, such as non-sports
issues like Harley Davidson and Coca-Cola as well as
Phone cards with images ranging from McDonald's to Star Trek. I was in the
middle and was able to represent many of the companies at the shows.
Soon after the frenzy, I was able to leave the show
circuit and concentrated on family, friends and my regular job.
Concept to Completion
About
two years
ago, I caught up with the old show circuit friends
and was surprised to find out that they all had returned to
the Gold, Silver and Coin business from where most of them started.
As we talked about the old days, it became quite clear
that I still had some of the necessary commodities hidden away to be able to
start an eBay business, but not the knowledge. In come my friends, both
old and new - they have opened up and shared their
knowledge to get it all going.

Work Has never been this much
fun!
Where did the "Captain" come from? Many years ago I
traveled the deep blue sea and still today it calls. Now days, I keep it
closer to home and only venture to the Great Lakes when the sun is shining
and the urge hits.
