Grandma's Barn originally started out as a craft business that my mom and I started in 1986. I wanted to be able to stay at home with my kids as they were growing up. I came up with the name from a picture that I came across in one of my old photo albums - my grandma's barn. It was such a good picture and I had fond memories of playing in the barn when I was a kid, that I just couldn't let the opportunity pass.
The business didn't take off like I had hoped, but after about 10 years we built up to 8 stores. We sold everything from Nautical and Fishing collectibles (especially at the ocean side stores), Civil War reproductions and collectibles (near National Battlefields), to handmade baby blankets and items for kids.
We still sell a wide variety of things, but instead of keeping up with 8 stores, found it was much easier to sell on ebay and have an ebay store.
I have been a member of the ebay community for more than 5 years, but have only recently really started selling on ebay in the last two months. I'm having fun and teaching my kids to sell on ebay as well.
Personally, I work at a local Police Department part-time and keep up the ebay business in my off time. I really enjoy selling, but also enjoy buying too.
Collecting Coca Cola trays and old memorabilia is my collecting passion. We moved to a larger house a few years ago, so now I have a lot more space for my collectibles. My kids think I'm crazy - I collect Coca Cola stuff, but I only drink Mt. Dew (Pepsi product). Unfortunately, it's not so easy to find Mt. Dew collectibles.
One hobby that my family has is RACING! My boys raced go-karts when they were little, raced Mini Trucks when they got older, then started racing Allison Legacy cars in the National Touring series. Now, it's on to bigger and better things - Drag Cars!
