I live in South Africa and am a private collector. I have degrees in Psychology & Sociology, but have practiced as a Magician & Illusionist most of my life. What I Like Collecting for my Home
I have a passion for all antiques, especially Chinese, Egyptian & Greek Antiquities and legal Artefacts. Chinese Porcelain from BC to AD 1800's. Lamps as follows: Deco, Nouveau, Tiffany, Bradley & Hubbard, Duffner & Kimberly, Miller, Galle, Stained / Slag Glass and most other Old Lighting. Old Magic Tricks, Magic & Theatre Posters, Theatrical Memorabilia including Houdini. Also Glass. I do not mind reproductions as long as you tell me they are, and items do not all have to be 100 or more years old. Some items are used as props, others (originals) I collect for my home.
Customs
Please clearly mark somewhere on the Customs Form "Not For Resale" even if there is no check box for this, otherwise I have to pay hefty duty fees (I am a Collector not a Seller). Thank-You
Payment & Shipping
I prefer to use PayPal or Credit Card, and prefer USPS (not UPS) 'Standard Airmail' Parcel Post for lighter items, and Standard Int'l Flat Rate Shipping for heavier items, whichever works out less expensive (unless the price difference is small). However, I do not mind other payment terms and different shippers. I have not had any problems with items being shipped to South Africa so far, and all have arrived intact.

Fraud
I have encountered several fraudsters in the field of Antiquities / Ancient Artefacts, whom I report. Beware of the plethora of fake Ushabti's and other Egyptian Statuettes and Greek Pottery on the net. Always report Fraud and Fake items, and sellers who also sell Modern Reproductions listed as Antiques, Antiquities or Originals.
Tips About Dicey Sellers
I have an international company that I use to track down sellers who disappear - why not get one too. I am also a member of several Yahoo groups who list untrustworthy sellers - see one of the Links below. Also, let eBay know about these persons. |
