I have been creating polymer clay designs since 1991. I use only artist grade polymer clay. All of my pieces are accented and assembled with quality materials, such as sterling silver, gold-FILLED, vermeil, Swarovski crystal beads.

Maura Muir Designs

My name is Maura, a.k.a. "muirdesigns". I am a Rochester, NY area native and I attended Rochester Institute of Technology. After traveling abroad and living in many cities across the country, I have returned to my home state and now reside in Webster, NY. As a child I was surrounded by art. My father was a woodworker, furniture designer, sculptor and photographer; my mother a metalsmith and textile artist. It was natural for me to enter into the creative arena. I enjoy many mediums but found my true passion with two mediums, polymer clay and Precious Metal Clay. I continuously strive to stretch my imagination and my mediums. 		 

I have been working with polymer clay since 1990. I never use prefabricated canes and I create all designs myself. I use only the strongest of polymer clay and create many custom colors to use in my creations. I have been an instructor polymer clay for many years. The classes I offer specialize in many cane techniques, translucent clay and Liquid Translucent clay applications, gradient blend uses, mica shift and mokume gane. I held the position of Co-Chair (project coordinator) of the Western New York Polymer Clay Guild 2001-2003. Precious Metal Clay is a unique, amazing and relatively new product. It is very fine particles of silver or gold suspended in an organic binder. It has the consistency of potter clay but after firing in a kiln the object is pure precious metal. I am also certified by the PMCGuild as a PMC instructor.
