Well, I must say I am a bit of an eBay addict. I love rifling through the pages looking for great gift ideas for my family and friends - and usually find what I am looking for without even leaving my home.
All I need to do is write down a list of names - the persons likes - colours, crafts and hobbies, age group etc. Then it really is as easy as bidding and keeping an eye on your items. Adding a few extra words in the appropriate spaces helps finds the most amazing stuff. And you know what - if it arrives and you aren't happy - you can resell it!
When buying, I have had wonderful sellers and some not great sellers - this dosen't deter me though. As I see it - everyone can have a bad day :).
Now selling is a different kettle of fish.
If you aren't able to get to check your eBay pages more than a few times a day, you can actually get the full wrath of people. Hopefully, well I know I haven't, done this to my customers. It is always too easy to jump up and down without giving the seller a chance to answer your problems. At the very worst, I have had to put in a Paypal claim. This has only happened a couple of times over the past three years, so I consider myself to be very lucky. The problem in two of the cases was our own postal system. Items coming from overseas can disappear without the buyer ever being able to find their item. The tracking numbers that the overseas sellers give you are untrackable in Australia. It is the seller that has to put in a claim for the buyer.
So I put myself in the seller's shoes first, and allow a little extra time for my item to reach me.
Give sellers time to complete the transaction for you. I know from the stories I have read, that most eBayers are not professional business, rather the opposite. They live normal lives with the every day ups and downs of the rest of us.
Just a note to prospective buyers, that as much as I like eBay, I do not sit on the computer 24/7. I will answer questions as soon as humanly possible. At times, a disability I have, will not let me attend to stuff immediately. So I apologise for that in advance. I have had a buyer get a little irate at me because I didn't answer his question straight away. Less than 24 hours had passed. It did upset me - that's why I this paragraph.
Sometimes, I also list items for my family members. These have included their cars - or rather they have bought another, then sell the first. At least they get something for them this way. As most people appreciate, we don't get good prices using our cars as deposit for a new model - do we. This has happened this month (August 09).
