After hearing "you should do this full-time" for most of my life, I'm finally getting a chance to try it. We invested in a "starter" booth at the Antique Mall of Texas in Round Rock about six months ago and this week we're moving into a "large" booth on a center aisle (a corner one at that). Also, we've rented space in a couple of the City Wide Garage Sales (antiques & collectibles only, notwithstanding the name) at the Coliseum in Austin, TX. After talking to other dealers (who have been friendly and helpful every step we have taken) we've decided to jump in feet first and try eBay. So, if you are one of my first customers...... Hello, glad to meet you and welcome to the realization of my dream.
My Mother Created This Junk Shop Junkie
My dad was in the Navy and we moved around quite a bit. In the 50's, the Goodwill Stores would hold ten cent booksales every three to four months. Since mom, dad and I were all readers, mom and I would watch the paper for ads on these sales. We had a budget of $5 or fifty books. It was like Christmas! I lost my parents while still young, but their gifts of reading and an appreciation for well made items from their time (they were old enough to be my grandparents) stayed with me. Still haunting the thrift stores for reading material, I soon started wandering away from the book section and found that I could have wonderful old furniture, knicknacks, linens, clothes, jewelry, kitchen ware, anything I needed to furnish my home and dress myself. AND I could afford it!!!! Plus, I discovered I had an "eye" for special items. People started noticing that the "quaint" items I surrounded myself with were starting to be called collectibles and vintage. Some have even told me that it's a gift and I should use it as such. So here I am.....trying to find out if you can really make a living, meet new friends and further your knowledge while doing something you naturally love to do.
