A personal page in honor of the Algerian writer Kateb Yacine
Welcome to the Kateb Yacine page for Nedjma Imports. I, Maggie Matthews, am writing a thesis on the book Nedjma by the great Algerian writer Kateb Yacine. This is how my company became named Nedjma Imports. Kateb Yacine wrote in French and his novel has been translated into English. I highly recommend it. He was passionate about Berber culture and so am I.
This is my Tiznit logo but I will try to put up something more interesting
Berber Culture
The Berbers were in North Africa long before anyone else, I guess, and their culture and arts have been influenced by the Phoenicians, the Greeks and Romans, the Goths, etc. but have always been distinctively theirs. The music and dance is powerful and the weaving (a woman's art) and the jewelry are widely admired. Tiznit, where I live, is in a main Berber area, the tashelheit area in the South. Many people here speak only Berber. This is a center for Berber jewelry.
