My first interest in glass started when I was quite young helping my mother doing house cleaning. One of the items I had to dust was a Phoenix brown stained milk glass DANCING LADIES vase. Little did I know I would later have 27 DANCING LADIES vase in a Phoenix collection. Alas they are all gone; It was a choice, keeping the Phoenix collection or keeping the mortgage.
In the mid 80's I started dealing in old glass. I have been a full time antique dealer specializing in early American pattern glass, colored Victorian pattern glass and art glass since 1991.
I always pack well to ensure that items arrive safely. I have purchased glass through the mail and have seen some absolutely horrific packing (I am even being kind to call them packing). I do not want anyone to feel the sickening feeling of waste and loss that I had when I opened them. I try and recycle packing materials, when I have no peanuts, I use newspaper. I recycle my newspaper and and the packing materials I get when I go to shops, malls, shows and from friends. I avoid buying peanuts and bubble wrap as they will usually end up in the trash and will hang around in the environment for centuries.
I always try and obtain choice and uncommon items for my stock. I like rare and beautiful, they are so much fun and exciting and easier to attract buyers and sell than common and tawdry items. Don't smirk you know it is true, we all prefer the rare and beautiful.
