Tips on Earning a Good Bidder Reputation: |
|
1. Research the item you want to buy. Start looking on ebay and other auction sites for pricing estimates on how much the item will sell for. I always do this and it has NEVER proven wrong for me. Also, go to the manufacturer's web site to get the correct technical info on the item. This way you will know what is supposed to be included with a new or remanufactured item. If you are planning to buy a used item, at least you will ge tthe tech specs for the minimum that item should have. (i.e. you are looking at a PC. The manuf's site says it should have a 2GB HD, but the person selling it says it has a 1GB HD. That means is was downgraded and should not sell for the "new" price. 2. Have the money for the item before you place your bid. This means if you want to spend $150 on an item, make sure you have it - either already in hand, or already procesing as a deposit into your Paypal account. Once it is in your Paypal account, it will not "accidentally" get spent. If you must transfer $30 each week for 5 weeks to get the $150 total, then fine. It will stay in your Paypal account until you send it. 3. Make sure you CONTACT the seller within ONE day. Although ebay and other sites give you 3 days, try to get this done as soon as possible. This alerts the seller that you are aware of your winning status, and that you are making steps to send payment soon. If you cannot make the payment in a timely manner - EMAIL th seller and explain. Most will give you a small extension to allow you to send the money. 4. Follow up with the seller. This means send another email when you are ready to send the payment - even if you are using a payment service. This lets the seller know to expect the money and to ge tthe item ready to ship. 5. After you receive the item, test it out immediately, and report back to the seller that you received the item and that it works fine. If it doesn't work, tell them what is wrong and ask themabout resolving the issue. Remember to be POLITE not bitchy or rude. Many of those I have dealt with resolved the issue quicker because I explained what was wrong, what options I was looking at to fix the problem, and what I expected of them. I also gave the seller the option to choose which solution they wanted to try. Keep the solutions reasonable. If a small part will fix a big item, then see if they will buy or provide the part, instead of the whole item. This also saves additional shipping costs. 6. Leave feedback for the seller and the transaction n a timely manner. Remember, not to let personal feelings influence your rating. If they tried to help you, but you did not like their answers, that is not their fault. If they completed the transaction quickly and communicated well with you, then they dis a great job. If they did not send the item when they said they would, or they sent the wrong item and did not resolve the problem, then they deserve poor feedback. Do not put "personal" terms like "They are a bunch of jerks" because ebay will delete the negative comment and it will never show up. instead, state WHY they got a begative feedback, like "shippied item late" or "sent wrong/broken item and did not resolve problem." 7. Repeat this process from step # 1 every time you are ready to look for something to buy. Keep following this and you will reap the PRAISE points and be a respected bidder. |
