FROM STAMPS TO QUILTS

It started with stamps and coins.  Foreign stamps led to dreams of foreign places and acquiring stuff from far away countries.  Old coins had the iconography of ancient cultures and vintage Americana.  After studying Literature at Columbia College and Art History at the University of Virginina I discovered antique American QUILTS at the 1971 exhibition at the Whitney Museum

PERKING UP DARK NYC APARTMENTS

I began using quilts in my urban gypsy lifestyle to perk up dark NYC apartments.  Then  MERCURY GLASS and BRAZILIAN BUTTERFLY ART gave sparkling vitality to those apartments and made an eclectic look with American Folk Art WHIRLEY-GIGS and Asian dieties competing for attention against the quilts hung on the walls and the Indian paisleys slung over daybeds and chairs. 

FOLLOWED BY....

English TRANSFERWARE and Dutch "Brown Cafe" tablecloths, Japanese children's KIMONO, American HOOKED RUGS and AMISH MINIBRAIDED RUGS followed me home along with RAG RUGS and other BRAIDED COUNTRY RUGS.

SPREADING WORD OF MY COLLECTION

I've appeared on Metro TV's "Antique Show and Sell" in the ON DISPLAY segment once featuring ANTIQUE AMERICAN QUILTS and another time featuring INDIAN AND EUROPEAN PAISLEY SHAWLS.

I've written about quilts for a European biweekly publication, WANTED IN ROME (Rome, Italy).

SELECTING QUILTS

I would be happy to help you select a quilt or two for yourself or as a gift.  Just consider the price range, color choice and general purpose and we can talk further to make a selection.

I don't do construction, but I would be handy to decorate any space that doesn't need major renovation.
