Welcome to Nutkin's Nest, by Jon and Emily Gottshall
Hello! Thank you for viewing my About ME page.
Hi! My name is Emily Dimov-Gottshall and I am an artist. If you are curious about me, you can check out my website at http://www.edgegal.com
Most of my earnings from ebay are going to aid my pets and help our family. All of my animals where homeless or in need of a home and have found a permanent space with us. :)
A little more about me:
I am an artist as well as a teacher, mother, and wife. I have been selling on eBay for more than 5 years. I have sold close to 1000 paintings through eBay and on-line as well as having 100% feedback from satisfied customers.
I have been painting and creating artwork for over 20 years and have been selling my art all over
the US and Internationally for 10 years. I enjoy painting with various mediums. I recently found out about ACEO (art cards editions and originals) and have started to expand in this area. Currently, I am showing my work in local galleries but love selling my work through eBay and on-line.
I have done lots of animal portraits and animals in natural settings however, I also do a variety of
work such as abstract, semi-realism (influenced by Kahlo and Eric Carle), sculptural forms and most recently have been influenced by Japanese pop art such as Hello Kitty style, Anime and other works deemed cute. :)
My work is important
to me and I enjoy working with various mediums and learning new concepts in art. I have a large and varied amount of work. I try to do various styles and mediums.

I am currently accepting commissions. If you have a favorite photograph, jpg or digital image you'd like to see as a Sumi ink or Watercolor painting email me at emily@gottshall.com and I can give you a quote. As a children's illustrator I have appeared on several on-line magazines and I have my own card line at my cafepress shop mentioned above.

Why I paint:
Some people have asked me why I paint animals. Since I was a little girl I have always had animals around me. From my first pet, which was a goldfish won at a children's school fair to guinea pigs, rabbits, two desert tortoises, hamsters, pigeons, a crow, roosters, more pigeons, cockatiels, canaries, parakeets, cats and recently a little bichon dog named Mr. Nelson. Currently, I have four cats (Simone, Autumn, Sampson and Kiwi), one dog (Mr. Nelson),two guinea pigs( Applejack and Berry), a cockatiel (Odie), Sea Monkies, two daughter and a son! We're quite a house full! And I won't go into our recent science experiment of raising caterpillars! Hey, life is short and we might as well embrace what is around us.
Artists I admire:
Beatrix Potter, Frida Kahlo, Eric Carle, Lynda Barry, all children's book illustrators and many, many more.
As an artist and teacher, I recommend all
future artists and really everyone, to find out about different artworks and artists. I truly believe
that everyone has potential to create, make good works and be inspired to create artwork by themselves. :-)

Thank you for viewing my ME page and please check out our Web site at www.edgegal.com where you can view more of my work.
Here I am producing a number of original paintings with Sumi ink, hand-ground from traditional ink sticks, and applied with brushes. I like to use color as well as black and white in my work. Often, I find that grinding the ink acts as a type of meditation. I work with watercolor as well.

Grinding ink. Note the brushes and traditional inkstone. The slow grinding of the ink is said to focus the mind of the artist. It's true!
