Condition/Grading

I do get questions about grading, so I'll try and explain it here too to save everyone some time. I have been a record collector for many years, so I have seen a lot of vinyl in my time, and most (if not all) of these items that I list are from my personal collection. I took/take good care of my records/collectibles, so whatever condition it reached me in originally, it will leave my hands in the same. I don't sell stuff that's trashed, unless is SOOOO rare that I feel it will still be useful/desirable to somebody. I always list exact details/flaws within the description. If you still have questions about a certain item, please feel free to ask. I understand grading is subjective, and I do the best I can to grade my LPs. The grades below will explain what I mean in my listings:

M-: I never grade an LP stone M, even if it's sealed, because there is no such thing as perfect. So in rare cases where something is still sealed and/or so nice that it looks new, I'll grade it M-. Many records I bought sealed/new would be graded M- when I sell them.

VG+: This is what most of my records look/sound like. To me, this is an LP that may have some marks/light wear, but is still very enjoyable. For an LP/45 that is 40 years old, VG+ may mean it has some hairline marks, but on old vinyl the grooves were so deep it didn't matter because they were built to last. A VG+ record is a nice one in my book.

VG= significant wear on cover and/or vinyl, this is the lowest grade I'll go. Doesn't mean unplayable or useless, or I wouldn't have had it in my collection! When I buy records, I'd rather buy a $2-3 copy of a $20-100 LP in VG shape than not have it at all. Except in rare cases, anything less than this is probably not worth selling.

Lastly, if there's only one grade, that's for the whole item, cover and vinyl. If there's two grades, it will be for cover first, and vinyl second. If a grading has parenthesis and a +/-, it may mean that it's on the border of the two grades. Like a VG(+) album would be nicer than VG, but not quite VG+.

Most of the LPs/45s/CDs are visually graded, though I have listened to all these records while they were in my collection. I am a collector too, and well aware of conditions, so rest assured I will do the best I can to grade as strictly/clearly as possible in all cases. Hope this helps, thanks.

ATTENTION CONDITION CONCERNED BUYERS: I know how important condition is since I too am a collector, and know that of course we all want to get the 'best condition' items we can find. However, as I stated above I do the best I can to grade my items accurately, and if there are flaws I will list them. But I have run into a couple situations with people where they have found mysterious problems with items that I didn't agree with. I am not going to be able to debate things like this, items are sold as is and you are going to have to trust my grading and the 1,000+ positive feedbacks as reason enough to buy from me if you want an item. I will do the best I can to correct problems if I feel like a buyer is respectful and we can communicate about it. But please remember what I stated above- no item is perfect, so if you are a collector who seeks perfect items, read carefully.

A few words about shipping & handling for orders:

I also try to make s/h as low/affordable as possible, as a buyer for MANY years on ebay I know how frustrating sellers who are overcharging for shipping can be as a buyer! I am not one of these sellers, but please understand there are other fees/costs besides the actual 'postage' that must be paid when shipping & handling orders. I only use REAL mailers for 45s/LPs/CDs which I special order as I need them for orders as I'm not a store, just a collector who's selling some of his colletion off. I don't recycle pieces of trash to use to sandwich an LP/45 in before mailing it across the world, or better yet, wrap it in some newspaper with NO support at all. And I've actually HAD albums sent to me this way, so I speak from experience! I will pack your item in a real mailer designed for shipping, seal it with packing tape, and all of this stuff figures into s/h cost. So please understand that $4 s/h by media for an LP doesn't mean I'm going to send it for $1.50 and pocket $2.50. Thanks!
