IMPORTANT HELPFUL INFORMATION WHEN CHOOSING WINDOW TREATMENTS

In order to create exciting and beautiful window treatments you only need to review a few simple guidelines.  Apply them along with the judgment and creativity that enhanced your decorating plan and you will do just fine.

WINDOW TREATMENT COMPONENTS

Look over the variety of components available, then scroll down to the sketches below to see some of the treatments you can create by combining components.

Swag Pair Cascade Swag One-Piece Swag Fan Swag Panel

Balloon Valance Festoon Valance Tier

These sketches give some suggestions on how to combine the components to create beautiful window treatments.  You can make up many other combinations as well.

  • Individually such as a Valance or Swag Pair on a single window
  • In multiples on window grouping such as Tiers on several adjoining windows
  • In combination with other types of curtains such as Swag Pair over Tier or Panel, Valance and Tier, Festoon or Valance over Panel.

CREATE YOUR OWN UNIQUE LOOK

Use the components above alone or combine them to create a look that is just right for you.  These are just a few of the looks you can create with our Heritage Lace Window Treatments.

1. PANELS AND FESTOON  Layer a festoon Valance over 84" Panels.  We recomend that tiebacks be installed at either 1/3 up or down from the top or bottom of the drapery rather than at midpoint.

2. VALANCE The perfect stand alone top treatment.

3. SWAG PAIR Install a Swag Pair to give your windows a unique look.

4. PANEL TIED BACK An 84" Panel takes on a totally different look when tied back 1/3 of the way down from the top of the window treatment.

5. SWAG PAIR AND FESTOON WITH PANELS For a wider window, layer a Swag Pair and festoon or Valance insert over two 84" Panels.

6. SWAG PAIR AND TIERS Swag Pairs and Tiers used in multiples are the perfect solution for wider windows.

ROD SELECTION AND INSTALLATION

These are a few simple guidelines.  Apply them along with the judgment and creativity that shaped your decorating plan --- and even if you don't "do windows" you will do just great.

1. Select the Pattern and size you prefer

With so many patterns to choose from, it is easy to find one to suit any room in your home.  Most patterns are available in a range of sizes and styles to give you multiple decorating options.

2. select the correct rods

After selecting your new Lace window treatment, choosing the correct curtain rod is the next step in the process of creating a beautiful window treatment.  We do not offer rods but they can be purchased at most Hardware store locations.  The most commonly used types are Tension Rods, Projection Rods and Cafe Rods.

TENSION RODS are spring-loaded to fit into the window sash between the side rails.  They may be round or oval.

PROJECTION RODS project out into the room away from the window frame or trim to support the curtains.  They are a single piece of formed metal with the ends bent back to "return" to the widow.  Standard projections are 1 1/2", 2", 3" and 4".

CAFE RODS are poles supported on matching brackets attached to both sides of the window, trim or wall.  They are more ornate and capped at both ends with decorative finials.  Standard dismesters are 7/16", 9'16" and 13/16".

When choosing the rod diameter keep in mind that Heritage curtains incorporate either a 1 1/2" sewn rod pocket or decorative rod holes across the top of each curtain component.  On all of our Imported Valances and Tiers the hole size is described in the listings.  Some of the Heritage layered treatments may require 2 rods, one (nearest window) for a Panel and another outside the first for a Valance or Swag Pair.

3. Choose the correct fullness

Generally curtains should be about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 times the width of the rod on which they will be installed.  The exceptions such as for Macrame Lace and some of the Imported Valances and Tiers will have the fullness mentioned in the listings.

4. Hang and Enjoy

All of our Curtains are easy-care, wrinkle-resistant Polyester or Poly/Cotton.  After removing them from the package, let wrinkles hang out over night and then touch them up with a warm iron if necessary.
