Out Of Context, my story

Out of Context is the name of a theatre company I was once artistic director of, starting at Sarah Lawrence College and doing traveling Shakespeare and original works in Bennington, Vermont, Cincinnati and many no-budget productions in New York City.  This was a while ago, but i am still proud of the name.  it came from a cartoon I drew, showing a Pepsi machine with a sign on it saying, "Out of Order", and another Pepsi machine alone in the middle of the desert with a sign that says' "Out of Context."  This is on my mind because this cartoon, 20 years later, is one of the main plot points of a wonderful movie an old friend of mine is trying to get made in california. www.dylanbrody.com

 

 		 

But why am I on ebay.  i like to say i am a Salvage Anthropologist (imaginary dual master's degree in cultural anthropology and museum studies, actually, from pretend graduate school).  I like to keep stuff out of landfills and into good homes.  I clean up after garage and rummage sales, and my biggest score for no-overhead merchandise is the dumpster behind my best local thrift shop.  i have no idea what goes on in their minds when they throw things away.  I am not stealing.  I am recycling.  I also recycle wonderful books that my tiny small-town library simply cannot fit, and they are grateful when I can present them witha small check from the profits of those books. Also The recent hurricanes have made me accidentally some sort of expert in the area of clothing drives, just for some friends from the louisiana bayous, now relocated to Syracuse, and anyone else who has asked.  My neighbors donated the clothes, including things like cocktail dresses, for some reason, which everyone agrees are better off sold, with an eventual check to relief charities, than sent to children in Houston.  Talk about addng insult to injury.
