I am the pagourdguy. That's what people started calling me at the festivals we do. My name is John, and my wife, Nancy, and I are gourd artists. It all started innocently enough when we got one as a gift. Naturally she wanted another, and as they were kind of hard to find back then, we thought we'd give it a try. That was 10 years ago, and today we have a real business going that has proven to be a lot of fun! We have studied with some of the best artists in the country, learning a variety of techniques from weaving, pyrography, carving, and a multitude of dyeing styles. Along the way we have met some incredible people and made some wonderful friends. All through fun with vegetables. All of our gourd work is done by hand by the 2 of us. Nothing is ever mass produced, and so each piece is truly unique. In addition to gourd art, we also do wood chip carving, a Scandanavian technique done exclusively with knives. We like to joke that doing our work is cheaper than therapy, as it is pretty easy to get lost in it all. We have won numerous awards for our gourd and wood art, and are members of The American Gourd Society and The Kentucky Gourd Society.
In addition to our art we also carry irradiated purple bottles. These are bottles that were clear originally, but were processed to acheive a purple hue. They have turned out to be quite popular, and that's why we chose them to be our first adventure in eBay land. So far they have been well received. Our intent is to have things for sale that you can't necessarily find in your local big box store. We think we've succeeded pretty well.
