Me - doing what I love
|
I have created art for as long as I can remember. Do you remember the add for "The Art Instruction Institute" that was in the paper and TV Guide? It had a drawing of a pirate and advertised that "if you can draw this pirate, then you may have what it takes to be an artist". Well, I remember drawing that little pirate picture and sending it in to them. I received a letter back from them that said, "You are very good, but you are way too young for our program. When you turn 18 please get in touch with us." I was only 8 years old at the time. I was discouraged, but never gave up.
My life as a professional artist began in 1999. My main focus early on was portraits of children and animals in a realistic, almost photographic style. My work is still very realistic although it now leans toward an impressionistic, painterly style when viewed up close.
I have expanded into murals and sculpture/figurines. I love murals because the canvas is so large. I have never been afraid of the blank canvas like some artists say they are. I love the idea of a fresh start almost as much as I love to paint.
