Gee, funny thing, I Love Books!
Thank you for looking at my “About Me” page. I am a mid-40ish something, second career student. After spending 20 years working for state government, I finally met the love of my life, quit my job, moved 250 miles away, and got married. All within a 6-month span. Seven years later, we are still wonderfully in love and I have a beautiful 10-year-old stepdaughter. Naturally, my family thought I had gone crazy. The neat part was I finally had the opportunity to go to college for the first time in my life. I received a Double Associates Degree for Business and Entrepreneurship. I am now back in college again and working on a Bachelors degree in English Literature. I would love to continue on to get a Masters in Library Sciences. That would be the ultimate in totally awesome.
One thing that has always remained a constant for me is the love of books. Like my eBay header says, “You can never have enough books in the house”. Of course, my wife did not agree with that when I moved in with over 1,400 books. It took a while for me to convince her that I actually needed three complete sets of encyclopedias. But considering she is the one who does most of the behind the scenes work (you know, pictures, new postings … etc) I think I’ve won her over. Now I know your thinking she is just trying to get rid of my 1400 books, (Ok, she did talk me down to one set of encyclopedias) but the truth is, I probably have doubled the original 1400 from my own eBaying, and a small – very small, on the side biz of buying and selling books
My big dream is to one day actually own a brick-and-mortar bookstore, but this eBay store has been a lot of fun, so I will keep it, too. In my heart, I would love to become an expert in the art of buying and selling “antique” books, i.e. any book older than me. Thus the name of “Patty’s Old Books”. Trust me, I have just begun and I have a lot to learn. It’s going to be a blast! I also have a passion for collecting signed books. My favorite so far is a signed Maya Angelou. Until then, I see nothing wrong with selling the more modern books because “Patty Sold Books” works just as well for me. I love the idea of an eBay store. It has been so exciting to see all of the different places where my books find a new home. I have had several international sales as well and that is just mind blowing. To think that eBay has such a huge impact on the entire world. I am happy to play my small part in it. I have also had my lessons to learn. Just recently, I have had to (or rather my wife has) update all of my listings because someone bought a “Buy It Now” listing and then delayed payment on it; somehow totally missing the concept of Buy it NOW! I have also had a few who I have had to report as non-payers. Come on, what’s up with that! I try to do all I can to keep the costs down. I often have sales. Unfortunately when the book is in my store the lowest amount I can charge is $1 – Sorry, not my rule. So I would encourage everyone to take advantage of the cheap auctions, isn’t that what eBay is all about?
As a seller, I always leave positive feedback with payment (even for the guy who delayed payment). The one thing I ask is to please scroll all the way down, and read all of the instructions. I strive to make this as pleasant as possible, after all, I want you to have the book. If by some chance there is a disagreement, please let’s try to work it out as individuals first; and please don’t complain about shipping cost, I have no control over USPS.
I hope you'll shop in my store. It is my pleasure to sell you a book or two
