DJ DAVE ON KDAV

It has been a great pleasure to operate Dave's Discs And Stuff. It's a real joy to share the music I love with others. Thanks to all my great customers!!

Now a little about myself. I was raised in West Texas not far from Roy Orbison and The Teen Kings over in Wink, Texas. Buddy Holly and The Crickets were north in Lubbock, the Cavaliers in San Angelo, Nighthawks in Amarillo, Peanuts Wilson, The Poor Boys, and Virgil Johnson & The Velvets in Odessa. (I have enjoyed working as a DJ in Lubbock with Virgil on KDAV Oldies Radio station for the past several years.) Other groups in the area where I grew up included The String-A-Longs in Plainview, TX., Buddy Knox and Jimmy Bowen with the Rhythm Orchids in Canyon, TX. and many more artists.

Many of those artists recorded in the Norman Petty Recording Studio in Clovis, New Mexico. All these West Texas artists had a great influence on my musical taste but I listen to all music from the 50's and 60's that was played on the Top 40 radio stations. Many teens in West Texas listened to KOMA radio out of Oklahoma City at night with it's powerful 50,000 watts. Local stations cut power so low you could barely get reception inside the city limits! Of course I became familiar with rock and roll music listening to the radio but have appreciated it more while being a DJ at KDAV.

I have had the privilege of participating in interviews and visiting with George Tomsco and The Fireballs, members of Buddy Holly's Crickets, Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon, Chris Montez, the presently touring Diamonds and Coasters, The Big Bopper, Jr., Sonny West (who recorded what many people agree is the best back to back Rockabilly songs ever (Rock Ola Ruby and Sweet Rockin' Baby) along with many of the fine vocal backing groups of West Texas including The Picks, Tolletts, and The Roses. I really enjoy this music and hope you will also!

RECORD GRADING

NEAR MNT (NM)

Tiny flaws and very slight wear including very light scuff marks. A sleeve will have slight wear but still in nice condition with some minor flaws like almost invisible ring wear or other signs of normal handling.

VERY GOOD ++ (VG++)

A nice record with some light scratches and/or scuffs, groove wear and may have some faint surface noise that does not smother the music. Nice, full sound.  Sleeves will show some ring wear, slight seam separation and/or corner bends.

VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

A few more scratches or scuffs with some background noise. May have a few tics but no serious problems. Will show signs it was played but has good sound. Might have a very slight warp that does not affect play. This will be rare on this grading and duly noted in description. Labels may show signs of ring wear, stickers, residue from stickers, light writing, or discoloration. Ditto for sleeves.

VERY GOOD (VG)

Well used with background noise from scratches and scuffs noticeable during intro and softer areas of the song. Plays OK with noise, pops and maybe some crackles. Sleeves may have writing, stickers, residue from stickers, turned up corners.

GOOD (G)

RARELY USED BECAUSE I DON USUALLY SELL THESE UNLESS IT IS QUITE RARE. DEFINITE WEAR BUT WILL PLAY WITH NO SKIPS. VERY MUCH CLICKS, POPS, AND BACKGROUND NOISE.
