EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS
TOWARDS SAVING THE LIVES OF A BEAUTIFUL ANIMAL!
Here is a bit more information about some of our daily routines!
AN AVERAGE DAY AT RAYS OF HOPE
A lot more goes into caring for our cats than letting them roam free on 13 acres of land, and putting out food and water.
This is a little insight into an average day here at Rays of Hope - not including Veterinary emergencies or caring for kittens.
Our day usually starts at 7:00 am with checking in on everyone outside and letting out certain cats that don’t get along so well with the others.
We then make sure all the food and water bowls on our back and front porches are freshly refilled.
Around 8:00 other cats start showing up at our doors. They then receive a small plate of canned food for breakfast.
Next the 5-6 indoor cats are all fed their plate of canned foods.
The main reason for the canned foods is to make sure each cat is eating and to look for signs of illness or injuries.
During this time they are watched to make sure no one eats someone else’s food as some cat’s diets are different.
Also one cat may be receiving a medication that we don’t want another cat to eat.
At approximately 9:30 we go out to the cat building and start cleaning the cat rooms and letting every one else out.
They are let out in a certain order to avoid any conflicts. Each room has the litter box cleaned. The rugs are shaken out or vacuumed.
Their blankets are all shaken out and freshened up.
We change all the linens once a week as well as wash their rugs. Then the food and water bowls are cleaned with disinfectant and refilled.
We also make sure each cat has some Toys in their room. We switch toys around so the cats have different ones every day if possible.
Timmy one of our cats that has 3 feet gets taken out to the outdoor play area we have built for him. On bad weather days we either bring him in the house for a while or we close up the building and let him roam around in it while we are doing the chores.
We finish up about 11:30 with this.
At 1:00 we take Timmy back to his room and also put 1 or 2 others back to give some of the other cats time to play in the building without confrontations. Then about 2:30 they are again released.
At 4:00 in the winter and 6:00 in the summer. All the cats start to return to their rooms and are locked in for the night. At this time we again check and fill all the food and water bowls.
Some cats that stay in the house during the day are now allowed outside for a few hours.
Between 8-9:30p.m we answer emails and update our adoption pages and Ebay auctions.
Most all of the cats are gathered up before 11:00 pm.
We have a couple of cats that sleep outside, because they don’t like being in the house or in a room. For them we make sure they have beds on our porch benches or in small dog houses That we have set up for them. In the winter we put heat packs in their areas to keep them warm.
Our day ends at about 11:00pm.
When we receive a donation we use every penny and then some to buy food, supplies and to pay for veterinary bills.
Although we have been able to pay most of our vet bills with donations we still pay for all of the cats food and other items ourselves.
We do not have volunteers to help; we do all the work ourselves.
I hope you have found this interesting and enjoy the Photos.
These houses have heated pads to keep the cats warm.
