Welcome to PinGwen's
About Me Page
Hi, and welcome to my "about me" page. I am an artist, now living in the most beautiful place in the world. I wanted to live a little closer to my son and daughter-in-law so I moved from St Louis a year ago. I now live in rural Indiana among the hardwoods and the birds. My immediate family has grown by two since moving here. I now own two dogs as well as my three cats. Cat lovers take heed: dogs are a LOT of work! But, dog lovers all over the world will tell you that they are worth it. There just isn't anything like that unconditional love, even when you think you don't want it.
As I said, I am an artist. I used to be an accountant, but was just too bored. There really isn't a lot of room for creativity in the world of numbers. Pretty much, it's all been done... So, after twenty years or so, I quit and started doing some serious work with serious artists. I have painted all my life, but did not have an opportunity to pursue it other than a course here and there. After I left accounting, I spent two years studying with a well known artist in the St Louis area. I also worked with other masters in the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest. During this time, I feel that I have learned a lot about the tools and tricks of my trade. But, mainly I have learned that I am what I am... You may like my style, or you may not. But, it is what it is. I can only paint to please myself. Generally speaking, it seems to please others as well. I took first place in a St Louis area wide competition last year. The winning painting is titled "Goober and Waylon". My niece, Melinda was the model along with Waylon, now deceased.
And, because I liked the way I looked thirty years ago better than I like the way I look today, I'm showing my self-portrait from that time... it's called artistic license. The next one is called "Puckers" and is my other niece, Jackie. As is "Naked and Free".. (sorry Jacster)
I also do animals and landscapes. I really love birds and cats, so they are among the most numerous in my collection. My landscapes tend to be of remote, solitary places. Maybe because of all those high-falootin' , self-aggrandizing executives I had to work with for those twenty years of accounting. There truly is peace in silence. Anyway, here are a few examples. First one is called "Cool Jay". Second one is called "A Cat of Many Names". The last is called "Misty".
I am a collector. I collect art. (hmmmm) I also collect salt and pepper shakers, cats of all kinds mostly porcelain, porcelain clowns and refrigerator magnets. My magnet collection is a travel collection. I have them from all corners of the earth including Ecuador! I know all you other magnet collectors are jealous...
I enjoy finding treasures on eBay, and finding treasures to sell on eBay. Only thing I don't like is being subjected to all the offensive terms of service aimed at deadbeat bidders. I hate being chastised for something I haven't done and will never do. Otherwise, alls well here.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed learning about me.
