Hi all! Pretty presumptuous of me to call myself pinupgirl huh? When I first started buying from eBay my husband was looking for old Vargas, Petty and Elvgrin prints. It seemed appropriate at the time and now that I have a name for myself it seems foolish to change it. Besides their artwork is phantasic.
Once I got into the whole eBay scene, buying just wasn't enough! I find so many cool things that it dosen't seem fair to keep everything for myself. I love antiques and particularly vintage clothing. The 1940's are my favorite era when it comes to vint. clothing. I fell in love with glassware, folk art, ephemera, oddities, and antiques in general. I was certainly born in the wrong era. It helps that the Brimfield antique show is just around the corner. If you've never been, now is the time!
I also consider myself a photograph connoisseur. I collect antique photography, Civil war in particular. It all started with a black and white snapshot I bought at the Wellfleet flea market on the Cape. From there its escalated...into a mad frenzy to find "THE" photo. Still looking for it as a matter of fact. My husband and I are the photogaraphic curators for our towns historical society. Pretty nerdy huh? Just remember your history never changes...but you can change history. Think of a photo as a slice of history, just one fleeting moment frozen in time. Sounds romantic.
And you are wondering where the sewing comes into play huh?
Sewing has been my passion since I can remember. My mom taught me to hand sew quilts when I was just a little girl. I now sew on a Singer macine and a Singer Serger. I have been working as a Graphic Artist...designing t-shirts and embroidery designs for over 10 years. I was an art history major in college, so I don't quite know how I ended up here!
I love designing hippie clothes. All those years with the Dead still haven't worn off me yet. It seems just like yesterday ... why I can still smell 'tour'! Its been a long time since I sold a "Garlic Grilled Tree" to hungry phans. I remember once actually taking a food stamp for a sandwich, and as a matter of fact I still have it.
Anyway, off track there

I have been sewing my own dresses for forever it seems. Usually I buy fabric and it dictates what it will become. I sketch up something, and sew away. Most of the time my sketch and dress end up looking nothing alike. Once I begin...I do whatever seems to work. I am into earthy tones, but also like the spunk of bold colors. It just needs to be all tied in together. I consider myself to have a good designing eye and just go with it.
Each item I sew is a one of a kind piece of wearable art. I don't use patterns. All material is pre washed so that it will not shrink nor will the dyes run. All seams are ironed and serged for a professional look.
I am inspired by many things, vintage and historical clothing primarily. Well check that out history repeating itself! Right now I'm on a 70's revival kick, big ruffles, full a-line skirts. You might see some nice big off the shoulder ruffles coming soon. BAM
I love the challenge of trying something new and like to try working with different materials as well as sewing techniques. I love to use different kinds of decorative stitches. My most favorite part of a project is finishing it. By finishing it I mean I the little added details that make a dress, skirt or apron top unique.
But most important...I like to have fun when I sew and am honored when one of you purchases one of my pieces. For that I am thankful. Its still a rush when someone likes your work enough to buy it.
Ask me about custom orders! Please keep in mind that all orders have to be through a private ebay auction!
