Welcome! Thank you for viewing my artwork. I am a Glass Flameworking artist with a focus on mixed media...or I might be a mixed media artist with a focus on Flameworked glass. Either way, I love to explore unexpected combinations of different materials with my glass sculptures. I am currently experimenting with glass as a component in mixed media wall art. I look forward, as always, to seeing where this journey takes me...

About my current work:

I have been wanting to create wall-hanging panels using my glass art as a focal for quite some time now, but have only recently had the chance to create what was in my head. After trying many forms of painting and drawing as backgrounds for my borosilicate glass work, I have finally discovered what I consider to be the perfet medium to compliment the translucence and color shift of the glass: Encaustic.

Encaustic is a beeswax-based medium where other materials such as resins and other forms of waxed are mixed in to temper the beeswax. The luminosity of the wax works beautifull with the gorgeous hues and subtle shifts of the glass. I'm having a truly wonderful time working with these materials!

One of my favorite parts about working with encaustic is that it still involves heat, just like my glasswork does. There is still a dance and a give-and-take relationship with the wax, just like with glass.

Another wonderful thing about encaustic is that it is a highly archival medium, as it is impervious to moisture. Will the wax painting melt on your wall? I'll give you the popular answer: Wax melts at 150 degrees...if the painting is melting, you have much bigger problems...your house is on fire!!

I am currently working with ACEO sized pieces, which are 2.5"x3.5". I do plan to offer larger panels soon, but right now I'm having a blast with these tiny, detailed cards. If you are looking for a larger piece, please consider hanging several aceos together as a grouping on a wall! I really think they look fantastic that way!
