Welcome to The Barn Raising located in Historic Rutledge Georgia
Welcome to my about me page. I hope you have been enjoying my auctions. I have been in the antiques business for over 28 years now. My name is Pam Jones. My husband Paul and I own businesses side by side in Rutledge, Georgia. I have The Barn Raising antiques shop and he has Rutledge Hardware next door. My store was originally a dry goods store built in the late 1800's. I have it filled to the brim with antiques, gifts and collectibles. The Hardware store is over 100 years old and retains all of it's original fixtures and even some of it's original inventory. Our Cole Boll Weevil Killer still in it's original railroad packing crate was found stored in the back when we purchased the Hdwe store in 1997. It now calls the Smithsonian Institute home. All the other wonderful items we uncovered in the hardware store are displayed for your viewing pleasure in glass showcases (sorry, none of these items are for sale). I have many country store display and advertising items for sale next door in the Barn Raising and on eBay!
You never know what you will find......................
............in either of our stores!
My husband still sells hardware and hard to find items next door such as hand cranked ice cream freezers, galvanized tubs, milk paint, Gray Seal paint,a full line of cast iron Dutch Ovens, frying pans, etc. In my shop, the more unusual, the more I like it! I specialize in antique primitives from furniture to smalls and just love things for children, Antique Dolls especially tiny "Frozen Charlottes and Charlies" to Vintage child and doll accessories, especially little kitchen items, the ones like Mother used to use! I carry many collectible lines, antique quilts and furniture, etc. Both of our stores are filled with items too numerous and hard to describe to ever list them all here. We are located in what has been referred to as a Norman Rockwell type village. A tiny historic town with the train coming right through two to three times a day. We even have a caboose serving up ice cream and fudge! It is a place where children play in the park while their parents shop in our restored turn of the century buildings. We are an easy drive from Atlanta, just 50 miles East on interstate 20 and 5 miles from the exit. We are the gateway to the largest state park in Georgia, Hard Labor Creek State Park with camping, 18 hole golf course, swimming, horseback riding, etc. We have one of the best small town cafe's anywhere, right next door! So if ever in our area please stop by and take a step back in time as you step through our doors! In the meantime or if too far away, please feel free to follow our auctions and enjoy our finds through eBay!
BIG NEWS IN RUTLEDGE!
On Monday November 19th, 2007 Good Morning America came to visit our tiny town. I had nominated our own Yesterdays Cafe in GMA Weekend's Best Bite Challenge contest. We were filmed on location and the segment aired on Saturday morning November 24th where we were in the final four in the nation. We did not win but came in a close second to 12 Bones Rib House in the much larger town of Asheville, NC. ABC said the online voting went on until midnight with our two restaurants neck and neck right up until the very end. This was quite a feat for a little restaurant in a tiny town of 702 folks!
Here is the link to the video from that day's show and another airing on the 25th where they announced the winning restaurant. Be sure to ask for the BUTTERMILK PIE at Yesterdays Cafe when you come to Rutledge for a visit!
More BIG happenings in "Small but Special" Rutledge!
