The world of reborning is a new and exciting one. Many artists join the ranks of reborners each year, providing reborn collectors with a large variety of styles to choose from. With the influx of new artists it can be hard for collectors to discern what makes a reborn doll of high quality and collectibility. Here are a few guidelines to help you discern which dolls are of highest quality:

1) Is the sculpt desirable? If a sculpt appeals to you, then it is. Sometimes the most beautiful dolls are made from less popular sculpts.

2) Is the painting durable and realistic? Some paints adhere to vinyl better than others, and some are notorious for fading over time. Stick with tried and true methods such as Genesis Heat Set Paints and look for painting depth and detail. Has the artist taken the time to seal the paint and if not, why not?

3) What kind of mohair is used? Low quality mohair is frizzy and easily broken. Beware of dolls whose hair is only pictured wet as it's easier to disguise frizz when hair is wet.

4) Quality of micro-rooting. How many hairs are visible per plug? True micro-rooting means 1-2 hairs per follicle.

5) Are eyes and lashes durably and realistically set? Is glue visible on the eye or lashes? Are rooted eyelashes fine and wispy or long and clumpy?

6) Are the painted brows realistic? Real babies have light, wispy eyebrows. Overly dark or short brows are less realistic.

7) What type of body is used? Heavier fabrics wear better and fray less.

8) What weighting materials are used? Only sterile first quality materials should be used to weight reborn dolls. If an artist avoids discussing what's inside, be wary.

9) Don't be afraid to try new artists. Many new artists are members of quality reborn guilds where they learn the latest techniques and work with quality mentors. Many beautiful dolls are created by passionate new artists. Just make sure all the above items are in order.

10) Look for quality listings with good photos. Are the photos in an auction blurry or dark? Are many words misspelled or unclear? The time an artist takes creating auctions reflects on their overall professionalism.
