Baby shower cake
|
Hi! The first cake pan I bought way back in the 70's was of course the 'Mickey Mouse Bandleader' then 'Donald Duck', etc. My favorite cake pan is 'Holly Hobbie'. I am a self taught decorator and as my daughter, Jennifer, grew, she too learned how to decorate. She is the master decorater now. I just critique! My grandchildren are learning as well. You can see some of my daughter's cakes on 'cakecentral.com'. Look up 'precious8000'. There is a butterfly cake that was decorated by 3 of my 6 grandchildren.
One of Jennifers favorite tips is the 'VIVA' paper towel trick. It was found on the 'cakecentral.com'.site. I'm not trying to copy or take credit for this. It's just a fantastic decorating tip to pass on! So in her words, after icing a regular cake with buttercream fairly smooth, let dry (crust like) about 5 to 8 minutes. Then place a dry 'VIVA' brand paper towel on it and using a fondant smoother, apply gentle even pressure across the cake back and forth and it will smooth out perfectly. Do the sides as well. It took it a couple of cakes to get the timing right on the dryness of the icing before I got it right. But it works wonderful!!! I have tried other brands, but they leave a pattern on the icing. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out!.
I believe decorating is not only a pleasure but also a talent. The best part is, if you mess it up, you can scrap it off and start over!
Enjoy your decorating!
Listen to criticism, learn from it!
A naked cake is a masterpiece in progress!
Make lots of funny and happy memories with all of your cakes!
Take lots of pictures!
And most of all, keep smiling!
Enjoy life, Laureen
