I have been 'had' quite a few times on ebay so I know what it's like to get a bad deal. And from those experiences I have expectations for those who I buy from. I clearly remember those that I was compelled to leave negative feedback for (trust me it was warranted) however it's often hard to remember the sellers that went out of their way to make the transaction a success.
Here's how I do things:
1) I don't usually list items that I cannot test or items that I know nothing about.
2) I describe all items to the best of my knowledge, I never intentionally 'forget' important information about an item that I have listed.
3) I feel that good listing pictures are mandatory for a successful sale. I never use stock images for my listing pictures. I feel that stock images are misleading and often lead to a bad experience. (especially with used items)
Communication:
The true test of any seller is communication.
My rule is: If I have a question for a seller prior to the sale, and don't get an answer or get a very poor response then what is to be expected after the sale - I'll buy from someone else.
I make it a point to answer any questions as soon as possible - before, during, and after the sale.
I used to ship everything by UPS, but after several unfortunate events and for better customer satisfaction I ended up switching a majority of my listings (mainly smaller items) to US Postal Service Priority Mail.
I chose Priority Mail because it is faster than UPS ground, It costs less than UPS ground, USPS will pick up shipments at no extra charge, USPS seems to take better care of my shipments, and Saturday delivery is standard!
Ebay Policies:
All Items are ready to ship at the end of the auction, I never sell anything that I do not have in hand, one seller I dealt with recently said "Item Ships Within 10-19 Days" kinda obvious that the item is not in stock! I despise when sellers sit on items for days before shipping out. I will ship your item within hours of receiving cleared Paypal payment! Many of my buyers have their tracking number within three hours of cleared payment.
I follow the guidelines that Ebay has set forth for all members.
1) I do not end listings early, I do not sell listed items outside of ebay.
2)If you are the winning bidder, you are legally obligated to pay for your item, I will not make an exception.
3) I actively report violators to ebay.
Payment:
I no longer accept any other form than Paypal. I do not accept money orders or cashiers checks. Those forms of payment have brought me many headaches.
Shipment:
I do not ship anything out of the United States, I have had many headaches trying to ship internationally.
Returns:
I do not accept returns unless specifically stated in the listing, all items are sold as-is. However, I would not in my right mind attempt to cheat anyone. At my discretion I will make things right if I feel that I am in error.
Shipping Costs:
I use USPS Priority Mail because it is cost effective and efficient, I do not inflate the shipping as some do. For your satisfaction, I include shipping insurance at my cost. I only charge handling fees when an item requires special packaging materials.
I'm not on ebay as a business, my goal is not to make money. I sell items that I have no need for, this benefits both you and me. |
