  Vintage Victorian & Edwardian
Photographs
HOW IT ALL STARTED...
My name is Glenda and I am the sole proprietor of Recycled Relatives, a small
online adventure started in the year 2000. The inspiration for creating a
website and starting a small "business" with the unusual name came from three
sources -- the love and support of my husband, my love of antiques (especially
antique images) and from the television show, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
Let me explain...
First, I have always loved the Victorian era. Often, while attending
various antique shows and flea markets, I would be drawn to the many
19th-century photographs that were stacked in boxes and scattered here and there
on display shelves. As I viewed these antique photos, I was fascinated by
the extremes of this period in America. The old photos vividly showed the
contrast between the opulent lifestyles of the large East Coast cities and the
austere lifestyles of those adventurous individuals who settled in the West. I
saw babies in long white christening gowns, women wearing long dresses with
painfully tight corsets, horse-drawn carriages, small log homes and huge city
houses... and all of these old photos had a story to tell. Holding each of
them was like holding a little bit of history in my hands! I eventually
started collecting those photos that were most appealing to me.
Second, it was the inspiration I got from a TV show called Dr. Quinn, Medicine
Woman that led to me to start my own business, something I had often dreamed of
doing. The most influential episode of this exceptional show, "Portraits,"
was about a diabetic photographer in the 1800s played by Kenny Rogers.
This single, thought-provoking episode was the main catalyst that motivated me,
with the help and support of my husband, to develop a website and a small eBay
business dedicated to the vintage photographs that I admired so much. As
the sole proprietor and owner of this small but successful business, I have met
so many gracious and knowledgeable people that have helped me to grow both
personally and professionally. Many of my customers are now my friends. I
attribute much of this good fortune to one TV show -- my all-time favorite TV
show -- Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
I hope that you will check my eBay auctions often. New photos are listed
throughout the week.
MY INTERESTS...
I am a person of eclectic tastes and have a variety of interests. They
include reading, antiquing, collecting old items such as vintage buttons,
postcards and photos (especially from my hometown), collecting Dr. Quinn,
Medicine Woman memorabilia and progressive social movements such as animal
rights and environmentalism. I have been an avid vegetarian (mostly vegan)
since 1985. That is when I decided (to paraphrase George Bernard Shaw)
that all animals were my friends and I no longer wanted to eat my friends.
My pride and joy are my two cats named Simmie and Chiko,
who have agreed to allow me and my husband to share their home with them!
AN EBAY SELLER OF INTEREST...
