| CELEBRATING 9 YEARS ON eBAY! UPDATE-MY FATHER PASSED AWAY IN OUR HOME ON SEPTEMBER 16TH. HE WAS GETTING DRESSED THAT MORNING WHEN HE DIED SUDDENLY. WE FOUND HIM A SHORT TIME LATER. THANKFULLY HE DIDN'T SUFFER AND IS NOW IN HEAVEN AND ONCE AGAIN FLYING ABOVE THE CLOUDS-THIS TIME HE DOESN'T NEED AN AIRPLANE! WE FEEL BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN HIM EVEN BETTER THESE LAST 6 YEARS AS HE SPENT THEM WITH US WHILE BATTLING THE DISEASE OF ALZHEIMERS. I AM REOPENING MY STORE-HOWEVER PLEASE CONTINUE TO BE PATIENT WITH ME AS I ADJUST AND SETTLE UP HIS AFFAIRS. SOME DAYS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS-TAKING IT ONE DAY AT A TIME. Welcome to the World of Robin's Nest!
Hello from Robin Robbins!
By now you can probably figure out why my business name is Robin's Nest. Yes, my name really is Robin Robbins! I tell people I meet that my name PROVES God has a sense of humor-otherwise why would he have me meet my husband 15 years ago whose last name is Robbins?
Try ordering something on the phone with this name! They always laugh or ask "Well which is it?-Is Robin your first name or last name? You say one B first and two B's second?-right!!!"
This man who gave me my unique name came along at a time in my life when I needed some laughter to get me through-and we both have needed laughter and God's love since our marriage over 14 years ago. I had been through a BAD divorce from a BAD marriage of 17 years. But I have two beautiful children from it so it did produce two great things! So I tell people he is my second husband but my first love!
Enough of the gushy stuff!-my husband and I have bought and sold antiques and collectables at several area Antique
Malls for the last 8 years. I started selling online over 8 years ago and now do it on a more full time basis because of some major changes in my life! Keep on Reading!
Once a teacher-always a teacher!
I taught elementary school for 18 + years until 2002. I had to take early retirement because of some health problems. The next few years were one continuous struggle after another with HMO's, doctors and attorneys. UGH!!! In June 2001 I had a major surgery that went BAD. I have had major surgeries before but this is the first one that my problems became worse instead of better! The surgeon had made some mistakes and my HMO wouldn't send me to anyone else for a second opinion. After 9 months of exhaustive tests, blame and excuses from the first surgeon-I found another surgeon and paid for a second opinion out of pocket. This new surgeon immediately knew what went wrong and in June 2002 almost exactly 1 year later-I had a second surgery to try to fix the mistakes of the first. This new surgeon was able to fix some problems but I still have some major ones. (I just recently have found a name for my condition it is called Pudendal Neuralgia-there is a website called SPuN that explains this disease at www.spuninfo.org )
Meanwhile I regretfully had to permanently resign from my position of an elementary teacher. I am a reading specialist who taught 4th and 5th graders who were having problems with reading. I thankfully was approved for early retirement from the Teachers Association. So at 50 years of age-after a career in teaching-I am home full time. We only have one child at home now-our son who is 23 years old and attending a local college. Actually he bought a mobile home and put it on the back of our acreage and behind our barn-close but not TOO close! Seriously though we appreciate every bit of his help he gives us and my father. The other two (a son and daughter)are in their 20's and on their own. My 26 year old son serves in the Coast Guard in San Diego California and my 29 year old daughter is married and an insurance agent. Exciting News! My husband and I became first time grandparents in September 2006. SEE ADI'S PICTURES BELOW! My handcrafted children's hangers are now put to good use in my own family.
We also moved to an big old dairy farm house with an attached apartment for Dad a couple of years ago. It has a few acres and plenty of room for animals and people alike. (Plus all my Ebay stuff!) With warmer weather coming perhaps I can keep finding old treasures to share with everyone!
I have my good days and bad just like anyone. Selling online has helped me keep being creative and also financially. I enjoy going on hunts for treasures with my husband on the weekends. I also enjoy restoring old items or making them into something entirely different and useful. My mother was an artist for over 50 years, she passed away last year at age 86. (The painting above is one she did and shows me many years ago when I was a little girl with my dog Peggy.) I like to think some of her rubbed off on me! I also have an extremely talented nephew-William Franklin, who is a superb artist and works as an artist out of his own studio on a full-time basis.
We also like old cars-we have 4 Ford Falcons and 1 Ranchero. I think everything old has great style including me! We also share our home with 7 dogs and 10 cats(OK-3 cats moved in with Dad!)-all rescued or adopted. (Two have been dumped on us since our move to the country!) I could write many more pages on my thoughts about animal rights and the morons who mistreat them and dump them in the country-thinking they will automatically be able to care for themselves! They have helped me weather the storms also and I know they are God-given! I just pray the Lord doesn't give us any more for a while! My Father lives with us and suffers from Alzheimers but he is most of the time happy and each day is a new day for him. God has brought us closer these last five years because of this dreaded disease. But he now has a child-like appreciation for people, God and life and it is like seeing something for the first time for him many times each day. He helps us appreciate the beautiful sunsets that the Lord makes, and the clouds that float by. He tells us stories of his days as an Air Force pilot in WWII and how he remembers flying through such clouds. The days of long ago are still clear to him yet todays events get lost.
You never know what you will find in my auctions-I try to keep them varied. But please be patient with me on preparing your order and shipping. I try my very best to ship within 5 business days but with the care of my Father getting harder with time-unexpected things do happen. Also when you order decorated hangers I have to handpaint each set and apply the decals-the set shown in the listings are examples. Thanks for your prayers and thanks for looking-God Bless!
