eBay Community Events
Rules and Policies

How can you take part in these events?
As a buyer, search listings for the keyword given for the event, and post to the thread to introduce yourself! Each event's coordinators will have "the scoop" on how to participate as a seller or attendee in particular events. In most cases, details for participation will be right on the thread we link to from here. If you still have questions, just ask on the same thread and friendly members will steer you in the right direction.

Does your Board or eBay Group want to start their own event and invite the wider eBay Community to take part?
There's always room for more! Events that meet the guidelines below will all be considered!

What is Current Community Events about?
We will announce projects created by members on the Discussion or Chat Boards or in eBay Groups. The projects can be a group of members who have gotten together to list items for their own business or for a Charity through eBay Giving Works. A project could also include local meetings of eBay members who have formed a group that meets on a regular basis in person or for a special event such as a face-to-face reunion of boardies.

  1. All registered members in good standing with eBay must be allowed to participate.
  2. All eBay Groups involved in a project must be open to new members.
  3. All Group or Board projects that include listings must have a theme.
  4. All Projects must have an ending date.
  5. Projects/listings by individual members will not be considered. eBay's Current Community Events is for projects/events that are organized by multiple members.
  6. All projects involving the listing of items for charities or fundraising must be conducted through the eBay Giving Works program, in accordance with eBay's Charity or Fundraising Policy, to ensure that the nonprofit beneficiary is a vetted, tax-deductible organization.
  7. Only one project at a time per Board or Group can be featured in eBay's Current Community Events
  8. Projects can not be advertised on other boards and must follow the board policy.
  9. Boards are to keep threads limited to one for each project per board. No repetitive threads will be allowed advertising projects.
  10. Groups must agree to allow an eBay employee to join the Group to review the project only.
  11. No threads advertising listings of board members will be allowed unless this is a group project and has a theme.
  12. To make items searchable in a Listing Event, use a unique keyword or specially-created, unique acronym at the end of the item's title. (A User ID may not be used.). The acronym or keyword used must be unique (i.e, not confused with a keyword or acronym in current use on eBay) and must be in full compliance with eBay's policy regarding the use of keywords in item titles.

FAQ:

How often will this be done?
We will broadcast new list of eBay's Current Community Events at least once a month - more often if there are many events. It will help a lot if you can let us know a couple of weeks in advance of your event.

How will these events be promoted by eBay?
eBay Staff will promote each new list of events to most of the Discussion Boards, eBay Groups, and on The Chatter Blog. Sometimes we may even be able to promote it in other places on eBay to reach a wider audience!
We'll update this About Me page each time with the new information, so you can use this link if you would like to link to these events on your own: http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=sally@ebay.com

How do I submit something to be included in eBay's Current Community Events?
Please send all requests to be included to Jackie@ebay.com or maeve@ebay.com.

Can we talk about and plan our event on the boards without violating the "Advertising" rule?
Please review the Board Usage Policy Clarification: Guidelines for Discussing Group Projects to learn in detail how to discuss these and still follow the Board policies.

What can not be included as "projects" for Current Community Events?
This program focuses on member-led events that help members get to know each other in a fun way through organized activities that meet all of eBay's policies clearly. To prevent confusion, some kinds of projects or activities will not qualify for promotion here. we will not be able to include personal causes, political causes, initiatives related to problem-solving or enhancement (such as Category, Feature or Policy discussions), single-user-led initiatives (such as campaigns driven BY (rather than FOR) a non-profit organization), fundraising listed outside Mission Fish, or group efforts to raise money for a private party for any reason.
