Goldsmith / Master Laser Welder Satow Goldsmiths is owned buy Steve Satow. After putting both kids through school Steve decided to pursue his dream. Steve moved to the greater Las Vegas area to purchase the store in 2007. The purchase was complete in March of 2008. Steve has been in the jewelry business for 38 years. He has been a bench jeweler for 32 years. He graduated from Bowman Technical School in Lancaster PA in 1976 and his thirst for learning and honing his skills has never stopped. He worked in the Cleveland Oh area for over 30 yrs. Steve was a full time manufacturing jeweler for several stores as well as having one of the most high tech best equipped home shops in the world. The 900+ sq ft shop occupied half of his basement. In the mid to late 90s a new technology for jewelers was introduced in the USA. The Laser Welder is a machine that allows properly trained jewelers to work on a level never before attainable. They can weld Platinum a noble metal that melts at over 3000 Deg while holding it in their bare hands. Repairs to Platinum didn’t have to involve removing all the stones anymore. The laser also welds almost any other metal as well. Broken stainless steel watch bands are repaired daily. Eyeglass frames are also possible to repair. This new technology opened up almost endless new possibilities. It can weld items less than ¼ mm wire that’s less than 100th of an inch. Steve recognized this emerging technology as the future of the industry. He was the first jeweler in the world to purchase a laser for a home based shop, in the spring of 2000. He has since developed and shared many innovative new techniques with the jewelry industry ever since. He has jewelers send work from all over the country for him to repair. He also does advanced laser training for the trade. He was recently named a Master Laser Welder by the worlds largest manufacturer of laser welders. Steve has been rated as one of the top two laser welders in the country. He has invested over $ 30,000 in the last 10 years to share through different forms of media all the techniques he has learned and developed. He has written over 25 articles for 4 jewelry trade magazines on a variety of topics. These topics include Tool modification, time saving bench techniques ( bench tricks ), bench top lapidary techniques, photographing jewelry, setting techniques, and all kinds of Laser Welding techniques. He also lectures around the country on jewelry topics. Steve was also involved in the emergence of CAD (Computer Aided Design ) in the jewelry industry. He purchased beta copies of the new technology and is currently learning how to use the newest version 6 of this incredibly powerful complex program. Steve’s store has a ultra modern fully equipped shop. He can design a ring in CAD from scratch and Mill it out of wax in his 4 axis computer driven mill to tolerances not achievable buy hand carving. Or he can hand carve if for you. The wax is then cast in the precious metal of your choice. The ring is hand finished and the stones are set. Then after a final polish and inspection your one of a kind full custom jewelry is done. All the employees at Satow Goldsmiths are bench jewelers ready to work for you. Stephanie Satow will design your jewelry in CAD and consult Steve to make sure it’s design and functionality are ready to put into metal.
