In 2003, Marc and wife, Michelle Blaiwes began an enterprise which offered neoprene car seat covers via the internet. This endeavor would soon redefine an industry previously unchallenged by offering an affordable alternative to consumers being held hostage by a "monarchy" of "elite" manufactures who, until then, monopolized the marketplace.
The Blaiwes' knew very little about neoprene seat covers nor did Marc and Michelle know much about the automotive industry or how the aftermarket accessories played a role in this industry.
Michelle was a veteran Registered Nurse at Tampa General Hospital where she was , ironically, born and raised in South Tampa in the days before it was "hip" to be from this part of the city. She had previously earned a Business degree at University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. As a nurse, Michelle cared for her patients like no other and she was honored by FEMA for her work in D.C. after 9/11 where she took care of the burn patients from the Pentagon.
Marc, born in Kentucky and raised in Orlando, earned his dregree in Marketing and Finance Management at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. After many enterprising ventures, Marc "settled" into restaurant management, traveling the country from Bristol, TN/VA to El Paso, TX and back to Saint Augustine, FL while opening new stores for Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. For Marc, his path was driven from a passion for customer service and his love for the lifestyle found in the hundreds of miles of Florida Coastline. Fishing, surfing, boating and diving were his life when he met Michelle in Clearwater, Florida in 1999. Never did it occur to Marc that his wetsuit could be made into a seat cover to keep his car seat dry.
While their knowledge of the Automotive Industry was minimal, Marc and Michelle, knew plenty about taking care of customers. This customer oriented manner allowed Marc and Michelle to succeed while learning the “ins and out’s” of the seat covers business. Hard work and long hours were no strangers in the restaurant business and medical field. An unwavering motivation to succeed kept them on track through the trials and tribulations of this new business.
There were times when others would have “thrown in the towel” such as the day very early in the business, when Marc sold and shipped a full set of seat covers, including a 58” bench seat cover designed to cover a bench of a Ford Super Duty Truck to the Mazda Miata owner, which is a small 2 seat convertible.
However difficult, Marc and Michelle learned the business and soon turned in their resignation at the “day jobs” thus trading the security and benefits of their careers for a vision now called SeatGlover Enterprises, SGL.
Up to this time, there existed a small and very “elite” group of manufacturers charging a ridiculously high price which was nothing less than a small ransom for a product which Marc and Michelle (now SGL) could offer at half the price simply by eliminating excessive overhead. Until then consumers had been forced to pay prices high enough to support someone who was surely sewing the seat covers one at a time while sipping tropical beverages on the beaches of Hawaii. While it is nice to think about, the fact remains that, like Marc’s wife Michelle, there are many of us that would prefer to visit the pristine beaches of Hawaii person rather than pay for their seat covers to be made there.
Through countless hours of product development, testing, more development and more testing, plus traveling throughout the US and ASIA for Q/A, SGL and its small but loyal staff has developed a world class product line. This product line has continued to grow. With constant quality improvement and a passion for customer service, SGL has successfully challenged the industry and raised the standards while lowering the costs. Not only has Marc and Michelle’s vision and efforts been well received by the customers, SGL has been recently approved by Chrysler as a MOPAR approved product and SGL continues to challenge the competition as they move into the next decade, 2010.
In 2009, SGL now offers a multi level product line for hundreds of makes and models, all with the same uncompromising commitment to quality and world class service which drove the company this far. Customers have many choices, from a universal fit to a fully customizable product as unique as the person buying it. As with Chrysler/MOPAR, SGL has partnered with like minded suppliers, dealers, and resellers.
In mid 2008 SGL created an alliance with Shipwire Fulfillment Services. SGL now has the ability to strategically place product in multiple warehouses throughout U.S., Canada, the U.K. and soon to be in Australia and more. This puts product closer to the end user and reduces the lead time, eliminating global inefficiencies and once again, reducing overhead so that the cost to the customer will remain the lowest in the industry without sacrificing quality or service.
SGL strives to continue on this path of growing the product line, automating the systems and utilizing state of the art modern technology and resources to bring more product choices to more people, in more places.
