Damascus steel is something that was created for the best blades. Also know as watered steel, archaeologists think that it was made by folding a steel blank back on itself to hammer weld it and hammer it into a thin blank again and again and again.
A Damascus steel blade is not to be confused with welded blades as a welded steel blade will break where a Damascus steel blade will survive and thrive. They may look the same but the internal structure is different.
