One of my favorites

More about Me: I am about as Aquarius as a person can be. If you look up the sign, that's me emblazoned in descriptive text. I'm flighty and quirky with a very serious side and a sarcastic humor. I usually produce only one painting every day or two because each piece takes so long to craft from original line drawing to painted form. There are layers to my larger pieces and drying times in between and once in awhile I need a break to even like my painting again. My art cards take a few hours from creation to end and will likely require more time as I become more detailed. I have more winged cat ideas to bring to the small spaces.
Mediums: My primary love is for watercolors. My usual process involves sketching in a normal mechanical pencil on standard art paper, a lot of erasing and placement of details, transfer via lightbox to watercolor paper and then each layer of paint gives the piece life. Usually I can't stand my painting about halfway through then begin to love it again when it nears completion. Often I will add lines with archival ink or small details with white acrylic paint. Currently I have a lot more fascination with sculpting and I use Premo or Prosculpt polymer clay to craft my designs.
Inspirations: I am inspired by my daughter and the cat I had to give to my mom, primarily. Jinx lives happily with Mom and is visited as often as I can. There is just something about the feel of purring furr against one's cheek or hand. I am also inspired by emotions and at times my husband or a friend will make a request that gives me an idea for a painting. My daughter often helps in the color choosing process. I will ask her what she thinks and she tells me a nice combination to use and I go from there, that way we created it together and half of the creation process is for her.
ACEO: People ask me what this is all the time. ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals. I found the group after searching Ebay when I heard about these little art cards that people sold. I joined, though I haven't yet made a gallery there. The site is fantastic, the art pieces are wonderful and I collect them as well. It's a fantastic way to own a 3.5x2.5 inch piece of original art by your favorite artists. The pieces are standard baseball card size and fit into collector card holders as well as sheet protectors for baseball cards. You can display them in small frames (some are sold on Ebay) as well. I always ship mine with a soft cover protector and a hard plastic protector.
What about the bigger pieces?: I am working to get backing boards and bags for my larger paintings as time goes by. Until then, I carefully package each one and usually ship with a cardboard piece for additional sturdiness to the package. Foam core board is another useful trick. I like to type up a certificate of authenticity when I can and I sign that as well as the original. The original pieces bear my usual signature on front: Season and the last two digits of the year, and on the back I try to include the date (if known, once upon a time I didn't date the works) and my formal signature on the back of the piece. If it has a title, that will be on the front or back of the work. I try to stick to acid free materials where I can to improve longevity of the work and I ship priority mail on larger pieces.
Awards: Aside from awards many years ago, I more recently received a Mod's Choice award for a dragon sculpture on Elfwood Art Gallery online.
