Welcome to the Romantic Mountains of Tennessee!
Hello, my name is Gail and I like to welcome you to my cottage studio here in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee. If you like we can sit a spell on the porch, smell the roses, have a chat.
For the most part I am a self taught artist. No formal training. In my studio I wear two different hats, yet they often cross over into both areas of my work.
One hat marks me as a decorative painter who loves to paint on items I find at estate sales, flea markets, junk stores... anywhere I might find something old or to be discarded and then use my ability to give it a new life and purpose. Ie been painting over 15 years and I love the shabby look, hence my business name. I taught decorative painting for about 8 years and Ie owned my own shop selling hand painted home decor.
My second hat marks me as a mixed media collage and Altered Art artist. I am more new to this world but it has become an intense passion of mine. I think you will find most artists agree that if you have a passion for creating it is very much like breathing. If you don create you can breathe, so one must always be creating.
Again my love for old and/or discarded comes in to play. I love the hunt for ephemera (old paper items), old photos, postcards, sheet music, textbooks and tuffpeople would normally throw away because it ust junk I love found items and using them in my art. That rusty metal hingamajiggyyou found at the back of the junk drawer, and have no idea what it is, might be exactly what I need in order to finish the artwork that been aiting for just the right piece
I not the kind of artist who plans everything out and knows exactly where I going and the finished work ends up looking just like it did in my head. I wish. No, I more an intuitive kind of artist and my work often takes on a life of its own. Sometimes it resembles what I had in my head when I started, but more often ends up looking like nothing I thought I had planned. :-)
No matter if I'm painting, collaging or altering, my work is usually vintage inspired. Whether those days gone by were better or worse than our times, Il never know, but in my art world they were a kinder, gentler and slower time that I dream of as I create.
I started selling on Ebay in 2005 and Ie met some of THE NICEST people and made some wonderful new friends. My customers are the BEST! I want to say thank you... you make it possible for me to continue breathing.
If you've stayed with me this long then you can tell I'm the chatty type. SO I want to say thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed the vist and hopefully you know me a little better. Read my feedback and know you can bid on my auctions with confidence.
Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about any of my auctions. Put me on your favorite sellers list because if I'm not in my studio I'm usually out hunting and you never know when I'm going to find that perfect piece for you.
Gail
P.S. There's always an empty seat for you on the porch!
