I have been working with polymer clay for 27 years! I have taught, helped establish 2 local guilds, organized art, craft and gallery shows. I’ve been on many juries, tested new brands of clay including, Kato clay and Premo. My work is in about 8 books that I’ll list below.
I also made a living, for 10 years, at polymer clay with my line of angel ornaments called Shane’s Angels. We had a full time staff including piece workers. The angels were in about 23 stores in 10 states. We did wholesale, retail, consignment and high end craft shows as well as catalog mail order and internet sales. During this time, I also gave classes on marketing, production and how to do the paperwork. I also entered into 2 licensing agreements with companies that produced my designs.
I had a booth at Bead Expo for 2 years and demoed as Donna Kato’s guest at the Craft and Hobby Association trade show for the Kato clay booth and helped out with the Clay Carnival a couple years ago. I will be in Donna’s new book coming out this Nov. 08.
I have written many small articles for various polymer publications and have been to so many retreats I can’t count, including Arrowmont, Ravensdales and Pingree, where I’m on the set-up and sort of on the steering commitiee since I’m a local.
I have learned or taken classes from about anybody you can name.
In a nutshell, I’ve dedicated my life to the art of polymer clay. It has been a soul satisfying journey to watch this new art medium expand and become more and more respected. One of these days, people, our pioneering dedication to this medium will be auctioned off for millions at Sotheby’s or Christie’s long after we are dead. Well….lets hope for Antiques Road show.
